So yeah, again the Black Mac is another of those beauties you need to work for!
Most important, you need to:
First check if your fancy dancy phone syncs with your Mac, through iSync, because I had a big problem finding plugins for my Sony Ericsson P990I, which was finally launched by Sony Ericsson, but did not work real well. When I bought my Xperia X1, then I was lost, because there is absolutely no support for Windows Mobile on the Mac.
Make sure you register your Mac on the spot at the showroom, and then recheck.
Find a good copy of Microsoft Windows for Mac, and this should be easy if you work in advertising;) . Despite what people say, iWorks or Neo Office do not offer a good replacement, although if you want to create impressive presentations which will only play on Macs, Keynote rocks.
The warranty is valid for a year(unless you have ACC Apple Complete Care, which is a complete waste of money in my opinion, because the Mac works great out of warranty:P), so make sure that you take your Mac for the slightest problem during the warranty, because the costs could be prohibitive out of warranty. I had my entire motherboard changed under warranty, which means that my Mac has been trouble free ever since(nearly 2 and a half years since). Use the telephonic support, since they are quite good in the sense that everything is usually cured in one mail.
You have to read https://the.taoofmac.com/space/HOWTO/Switch for basic tips and tricks.
Format all portable hard disks(not thumb drives, which are upto 16GB) in the MS DOS format, because that is the only format where the Hard disk is both read and write in Windows as well as Mac. Usually a windows formatted hard drive is read only in the Mac, and Mac formatted hard drives are not readable in Windows.
A Black Mac has a problem that the finish wears off, so don't bother(and don't your wife bother:P) trying to clean it every time.
You will need an adapter to connect your Mac to a projector for presentations, get your company to buy it, but this creates display issues, so as far as possible, try not to connect your Mac to a projector.
If you want to use Time Machine, make sure that you partition your portable hard disk, so that other stuff can be saved and read there.
For normal chatting, use Adium, for video chatting Skype is great.
Bottom Line: After 2 and half years of using my Mac, with all my data safe and virus free, I decided to give it to my dad, since it meant that I didn't have to keep cleaning his laptop of temporary memory, and viruses.
