As soon as you open the box and unpack your Mac, everything about it speaks of quality, right from the packaging and power cords to the actual unit and software everything is superb.
MacBook is Apple's Version of an ultra portable notebook. Other Macs include:iMac which is Apple's version of a Desktop PC MacbookPro are Apple's high end large screen laptops. MacMini is another great product from Mac which has all components of a PC tower in a small 6.5" x 2" box.
Macs have traditionally been popular in parts of Europe and North America and are slowly gaining popularity in the rest of the world. But nowhere do they enjoy as much popularity as the PC mainly because they appeal only to a niche market of people who are willing to pay a premium for additional features and aesthetic appeal that comes with almost every Apple product.
The introduction of new Intel Core2Duo based Macs has completely redefined the way Macs are perceived worldwide. The MacBook comes in two colors:
Traditional White- Glossy outside and matte inside
Limited Edition Black- Matte finish throughout
All MacBooks now come with a 1.83, 2.0 or 2.16Ghz Intel Core2Duo processor which makes them very fast and also makes them suitable for running windows. There are softwares like bootcamp and Parallels which enable installing windows on a mac and running it almost natively. In spite of this running windows on a mac isnt exactly the same as running windows on a PC because there can be driver issues ( like Audio issues when you install Vista on a Macbook with Parallels software). Apple provides the functionality to run windows but doesn’t support windows obviously. I wouldn’t recommend buying a MacBook to someone who wants to use purely windows only on it.
Apple launches a new version of its operating systems almost every year which explains why buying mac OS X is cheaper than buying Windows. But then there is very little difference between different Mac OS X versions so the need to upgrade isn't as great as it is between XP and Vista premium.
Mac OS X 10.4 is still the most advanced Operating system around, it is more user friendly than windows, no wonder people who do not know how to use a computer learn faster on Macs as compared to PCs. It is clearly evident that Widnows is a Mac wannabe because Vista has the same dashboard and search functions which Mac has had for ages just that Vista calls them with different names. As soon as the OS x 10.5 Leopard comes out, Vista will have new features to copy.
There are just small things in a mac that make it so much better
When you do a print screen you even have the option to get a cut tool so you can select and copy only what you want from the screen unlike windows where you can copy the whole screen or a full window only.
The Magsafe power adapter: the power cord stick to the macbook with a magnetic connector unlike other laptops where the power cord plugs into a connector whcih is on the mothe board, in other laptops it is very easy to damage the connector on the motherboard with just one pull in the cord this happened to my previous toshiba laptop and cost a fortune to repair.
Makbooks have longer battery life than most laptops in their category which means better usage on the move.
Most Mac OS users surf the internet without any antivirus because the risk of virus on a mac is negligible as compared to windows. However even on Windows if you use adequate protection you can be sure of not getitng virus or spyware.
One drawback with Macs is that there aren't mac versions of all games in the market. Mac Os itself is stable, but other applications for mac are often not that great, for example skype crashes often on mac. Yahoo messenger for Mac doesnt even support voice chat and photo sharing. But there is a wider variety of better photo editing and animation software available for macs.
