Just because of doctors negligence, unprofessional ethics and ignorance, poor diagnoses, i lost my husband at the age of 34. My husband was diagnosed on the fateful day of February 2010 with brain hemorrhage (due to high bp).we never knew that he had bp earlier. I admitted him in a local hospital where they treated him well and the emergency care was good. He was conscious and talking to us.two days later i made the decision to shift him to apollo specialty hospital, teynampet, Chennai, which turned out to be the worst decision in my life which claimed by husband’s life.

Neuro dr in apollo said he will not require surgery but might require to be hospitalized for more than a month as his left side was week. They also said except for few drugs and physiotherapy there is nothing else needed for him. Within 3 days he was shifted from icu to normal ward and was given oral food for 2 days. He was also given oral medicines during this time . He did not pass stool. From 7th day onward, he developed abdominal distention and he was given enema , passed black stool with foul odor (it is called 'melena') and the drs were least bothered about it. Two days later they decided to shift my husband back to neuro icu to have ‘close monitoring’ because of an infection called sepsis. His condition was deteriorating and again after a day they shifted him from neuro ICU to CCU for 'better monitoring’. The worst thing was they have not identified the problem, the root cause and they were simply waiting for something serious to happen. The next day morning one of the dr told me that he is doing great. He allowed me to see my husband and i still remember my husband’s face with a search for dear ones. For the very first time in our married life i heard him saying "i'm scared”.

This was also his last words to me. After some physical tests, my husband suddenly started screaming in pain , i was not allowed to go in. I patiently waited and 30 mins later i went in to see my husband sweating too much and unconscious. The icu dr told me that he needs an emergency op.and they put my husband on ventilator and they took 3-4 hours to take him to the op theatre. Surgery went for 5hrs and we were told he had perforation in his larger intestine and that the impurities came out filling the abdominal cavity. They also added that some impurities have gone to the blood but they could come out in urine the next day. 2 hours later ICU dr called me and said my husband's bp is going down and they are trying to maintain it. They did a dialysis. The fateful day morning the drs called me and said he is not doing great as his blood was poisoned and asked me to pray god. Finally in the evening an admin manager dropped in and said “your husband is in his last hours and he would need your support”. They allowed me staying inside the icu with my husband. I never thought i would ever experience this in my life seeing my dear husband leaving me all alone in this world. We were looking forward to build a family.. Everything shook. My entire world is gone. I was totally numb. Finally they got me a death summary citing that my husband died of "basal ganglia bleed and peritonitis induced sigmoid colon perforation, septic shock and multi organ failure". A simple endoscopy or colonoscopy or even a ct scan at the proper time would have identified his problem much earlier and would have saved my love.

I searched in the internet and it was so evident that my husband showed all symptoms of peritonitis (one of the dr had recorded in the report that there is no evidence of peritonitis) but these unprofessional/ignorant drs did not identify it on time.

For sure i know it is because of their negligence/ ignorance/ poor dedication and commitment/ improper diagnose, i lost my sweet heart. I do not know whom to be contacted to justify that they made a mistake. I have all medical records and i myself can identify the flaws.i do not want any compensation. I want the drs to be out of service for their lifetime. Let them not "kill” anyone else. If one cannot be committed to this profession they should have not chosen this profession.

Unlike other professions drs need lot of dedication and commitment. They should consult others when they are really clueless. I know there are lot of info available in internet and i'm sure there could be forums guiding them as well. I personally see this as a criminal offence and equal to a murder. There are lots of ways to earn money. Apollo drs are like corporate executives and are visiting drs, you will not find them when there is an emergency. I'm hearing lot of people complaining about the hospital and i think we should bring an end to these kinds of hospitals or atleast make people realize that they are "killers".

Apollo nurses are the worst staffs. It is the hospital's responsibility to educate them and also keep experienced nurses in place. They are not qualified and are only trainees and that shows the hospital's service mind. Apollo is a corporate hotel and not a hospital. If you really want your loved ones to be with you, please do not take them to apollo hospitals.
