I was discharged from Apollo today morning. I hope my experience will help you make a better decision when you are in a fix.I have never been hospitalized before and hence have little knowledge about the quality of service offered by other institutions in the same business.
However, I admit I got more than what I asked for from Apollo. I was admitted in the emergency ward around 4 days back. My situation, though not critical was kind of unstable. I remember a guy running out to a get a wheel chair for me as soon as they realized I was having trouble standing. A battery of doctors examined me and called doctor Kalpana Janardan when they could not help me much. Dr kalpana was kind and very very friendly. She asked me if I would like to be admitted and if I had a hospitalization-insurance.My 4 days at Apollo were quite comfortable.
I chose to stay in a ward as I could not afford the hefty room rents. I don't know if it was sheer luck or a corporate policy of Apollo, every single person I came across was friendly outright. The sisters and male nurses were active and very very helpful. I developed a kind of friendship with them, and trust me, the support and smiles they extended was more helpful than the medicines (and injections :( ) prescribed by the doctors.Dr Kalpana never made me feel as if am just another patient. I was her 'partner' in deciding what to do next about my health, what can be the real cause of the ailment, and how I should 'get-well-soon'. Never, not even once I felt am an Idiot, lying on a bed, and just being fed some white-pink-blue pills. She tried to develop a friendly relationship, and promised me we will meet someday again; not as a patient and a doctor, but as friends :).
Cleanliness, again I may be lucky but the lady duo "Gayatri-Lakshmi" kept the place as clean as possible, considering 20+ people were using a single bathroom and none of them had basic toilet manners. They always tipped me off when the place was just cleaned, as they knew I was waiting for the exact moment. Finally, my ailment was minor and requirements limited. Further may be I was lucky. But today, as I came out and realigned myself with my original life, I feel I made some good friends at Apollo and had a memorable hospitalization (whatever that may mean ;)).Thank you Apollo.-Rahul
