Psst - This section will contain some inside trivia about the film.

Quotes - Good one liners from the movie.

Oops - Goofs From the movie.

Director - Peter Howitt

Screenplay - Howard Franklin

Milo Hoffman (Ryan Phillippe) along with his friend Teddy Chin (Yee Jee Tso) is a computer hacker. After graduating from Stanford University they are offered jobs at NURV, a giant Portland company with a driven boss, Gary Winston (Tim Robbins), on the verge of making a world-linking satellite communication system. With support from his girlfriend Alice (Claire Forlani), Milo takes the job. Teddy on the other hand refuses to take up the job as Gary Winston is known for his shady deals for making his business grow. He works on a media compression program he wants to make available free. Winston takes a person interest in Milo, whose genius can help NURV meet its launch date, and Milo responds with brilliant work with the long hours that he puts forward. One fine day Teddy is killed. Milo is shattered. He then finds out that Gary Winston is not what he seems to be and investigates himself to find out that there is much more to NURV then a multi billion dollar software firm. Although the story is a seen-it-all it still keeps the viewers engrossed in some scenes. Very realistic based movie although some scenes are slightly exaggerated. Good acting by Tim Robbins. Worth a watch.

Psst -

1) The film is based on unethical methods done by Microsoft to gain monopoly in the field of computer software. The character of Gary Winston is based on Microsoft President Bill Gates and Tim Robbins has been even made to look like him in the movie.

2) The free software that Teddy is making refers to the Linux Operating System that is still available free of charge on the internet and was made and developed by the young Linus Torvalds. Linux also happens to be the most stable operating system. Microsoft faced severe competition from Linux after lots of users switched from Microsoft based operating systems to Linux.

4) When Milo is seen accepting awards, he is accepting them from Scott McNeally of Sun Microsystems to overtake the monopoly of Windows 95/97 operating system. Surprisingly all the software or operating systems seen running on the computers in the movie are in Linux or UNIX.

5) NURV is shown to stand for ''Never Underestimate Radical Vision'' in a sign at the entrance to the campus.

6) When Milo is seen accepting awards, he is accepting them from Scott McNeally of Sun Microsystems. Sun Microsystems have developed their own version of UNIX.

7) As shown in the movie, Microsoft was also accused of unfair monopoly act and was charged with Antitrust. It’s another thing that Microsoft was never proved guilty.

8) Just for the record, the official website of Linux has an advertisement of dot net which is a Microsoft product.

Quotes -

1) ''Doesn't Bill Gates have something like that? Bill who? He is ancient.''

2) ''This isn't a game! In the real world, when you kill people they die for real, And in the real world you're fuc.''

3) ''Gary Winston once said that any teenager in a garage could put him out of business. Is that what you've done? This is a garage.''
