I have spent time in Antigua during four short trips, en route to Dominica. On three occasions I stayed in hotels, on the other I stayed just outside of the capital with a friend.
Antigua is a small, dry island blessed (or cursed) with numerous white sand beaches and little rain fall. There are hundreds of hotels ranging from all-inclusive five-star hotels to less expensive moderate to shabby hotels and guest houses. The people of Antigua have been so inundated with rude tourists that they tend to be less friendly than the people on other islands, however, the better hotels hire people from other islands (Dominica, Trinidad, Jamaica) to work in positions that involve serving tourists.
The place is beautiful. Antiguan lobster is a must try food, it's delicious. Fruits and vegetables are imported from other islands. Food and beverages at hotels are very expensive. There are lots of casinos, historical sites and water sports.
A good place if you want a relaxing, resort style vacation, not so good for the more adventurous.
