I am greatly disappointed with the new antakshari.

I was an ardent fan of the Friday night Annu Kapoor antakshari on Zee TV. It had a feel good factor about it. It was great watching Annu Kapoor - the wonderful, sensitive, emotional and patriotic host.

Seeing the promos of the new'Antakshari - The Great Indian Challenge', I was very excited. After all, the good old Annu Kapoor antakshari is coming back. The days of humming, guessing the songs are going to come back.

But I am very disappointed. Yes, it’s the same Annu Kapoor, the same music, video clips, similar rounds….But it is lacking the spirit - the innocence, the un-commercialized emotions on the show.they are lost.

I am constantly reminded of the saas- bahu serials when I am watching the show. Seems like the host and the hostess(Juhi Parmar) are doing their best to put pressure on the teams, make them emotional and invoke unnecessary animosity among them. The audience, fighting on behalf of their respective regional teams, are given a lot of focus.

Wasn’t this show supposed to portray an age-old game, which could make an entire spectrum of audience feel good? Wasn’t this show meant to promote clean entertainment instead of making people take sides based on their region and fight for the team representing their region?

Even the small ‘Coming Up’ shown before a break, show the feuds among the teams or among the audience groups. Does this mean, they expect the audience to come back after the break to watch how the teams / audience fight with each other? Should not more importance be given to music – supposedly the core part of the show?  I used to think this drama was just a prank, but it happened far too often and far too much to be dismissed as one.

If drama is all that is needed, I can watch any of the serials that keep running endlessly on all the channels. Antakshari – which I hoped will provide me with some good entertainment, without showing people in bad light, which showing people taking sides, without commercializing emotions – is no longer what I expected.

Can someone restore the charm back to antakshari?
