Saturday night 10 pm at the PeachTree Cinemas in the suburbs of Atlanta.

All pepped up to watch the ace director and actor combo jumbo presentation - Anniyan.

The feel good factor of the grand cinemas of the Chennai city could be smelled everywhere.

Long queues with online ticket reservation print outs waiting to collect the tickets for

the show, as expected a delayed show started at 10.30, thats Indian Standard Time in Atlanta!

When it comes to movie craziness for the Tamil audience, its the same whether its in the chennai satyams, or some kottaai in some remote corner of tamil nadu or the peachtree cinemas in Atlanta - Whistles everywhere, funny comments and not to mention the extra chairs in the pathways of the theatres for a show oversold. Now to the movie itself.

To sum it up Shankar has worked hard enough to compensate for his so called disaster in boys, though this may not be the best of Shankar.

Shankar's formula was all evident - a strong message built around a socially haunting issue,

computer graphics which was so terribly overdone in the martial arts school fight that the audience went crazy laughing over the 'matrix' mania in the entire fight sequence, and also in a couple of scenes in the fight Vikram's dupe was clearly exposed, high profile music director with pepped up music backed by strong visual grandeur, innovative themes for songs and of course the hype that comes with a Shankar movie.

Vikram has shelled out yet another impeccable performance proving yet again why he is such a bankable star these days. Though the credit goes to Shankar, its really a terrific effort from Vikram bringing along the 3 different shades of rules Ramanujam - Ambi,Anniyan and Remo.

Vikram looks ravishing in Remo's character, especially in the Nokia song and for his age he looks really great, he might be the Kollywoods answer to bare chested, long haired ramp model turned actors of the Bollywood. But, when it comes to histrionics skills they may well take some lessons from our own Chiyaan.

Sada looks beautiful than ever and she fits the role perfectly with her acting skills giving some solace, after seeing genelia in Sachien where she could hardly express or speak a dialogue other than 'shut up' with her left hand palm always open and right hand index finger always pointing to Vijay. Sada looks go graceful in the traditional costumes and would have been pleasing but for the really silly skirts in the Nokia song where she really looks out of sorts.

Vivek has done it yet again,Vikram and Vivekh duo has repeated the magic after Saami. Especially the train scene and dialogues like 'Yedhavudhu tamil pada pattu opening aa' when Prakash Raj and Vivek try to find the meaning of Anniyans message after every murder, it was a laughter roller coaster all the way. Some others being 'Ihdukaaga Kamal saaraya kooptukkitu vara mudiyum' and 'Indha poonayum paal kudikuma nu paartha beer ae adikudhae '. The first session definitely belongs to Vivek!

Harris Jayarajs background is impressive though the songs are not his best. Songs are good and pep up the mood, but by his standards they are really very normal, though the visual pleasure makes them impressive. The best is the theme music every time Ambi discovers the Anniyan within him.

Prakash Raj, could have done a little less acting, to put it the other way he could have under played his over acting, none the less its a neat performance from this seasoned performer, but no way close his charismatic performance in Gilli.

For a seasoned actor like Nasser there is nothing to mention, small role and does it with ease. Whether its the intellectual educated mass of the Atlanta or the our own crowd of chennai from train vendors to tea kadai owners, the theatre went into a dizzy world of laugher when Nasser starts to explain about multiple personality disorder and especially when the lady doctor gives the example of 'saami vandha' for explaining the MPD or when the doctor says 'Why Not' when Sada asks how is it possible for an individual to behave as 3 different characters!!!.

Now coming to discuss of the flaws in the narration which sort of becomes unavoidable in stories like this - When all the police force is always seen in uniform, what purpose does Prakash Raj and Vivek coming in different getups serve and how Anniyan gets the extraordinary power to smash 100 guys in the martial arts school -Does multiple personality disorder bring along enormous amount of physical strength along with it?

Finally in the climax, Shankar has set a precedence of sorts by showing Ambi to be normal after 2 years of treatment, but then giving a twist to the tale by showing him to be not so normal when he finally throws the drunkard out of the train, as if this could be the beginning of a sequel saga, as we see in the Hollywood movies like the Lethal Weapon Xth part and Jurassic Park Yth part and some other movie with Zth part!!
