Finally finished reading "Anna Karenina" by Tolstoy. Took me a month to read. For those who have not read it, it tells the story of a lady called Anna, who is in a loveless marriage.
She comes across a person called Vronsky, and enters into an affair with him, which causes tremendous scandal.
When she learns that she is pregnant with Vronsky's child, she leaves her husband and son, and starts living with Vronsky. However, since her husband refuses to grant her a divorce, she is not able to legitimize her relationship, and this causes her grief and humiliation. There are 2-3 parallel tracks as well, all of which tie up at the end.
Overall, the story was really nice and does not seem dated even after 140 years since it was first published. However, I felt that the story meandered about a lot, and several pages were devoted to subjects that were not relevant to the main story.
There were times I had to skip sections and even whole pages, just to get back to the main story. However, at the end, I am glad I persisted with the book, and feel that this is definitely a classics worth reading.
