Ankahee, directed by Vikram Bhatt, is a love story, except that the outcome leaves the viewer as confused as the writer of the film .

Shekhar (Aftab Shivdasani) is a role model in his job as a doctor with a doting wife Nandita (Amisha Patel) and a loving daughter Sheena. A perfect family till Miss World and Bollywood star, Kavya Krishna (Esha Deol), walks into his life.

Shekhar falls head over heels in love with beautiful and vibrant Kavya. For lonely Kavya, his entry is like a blessing in disguise.

His obsession for her increases by the day and he gets rid of his wife, daughter and work to create space for her.

On the other hand, Nandita is unable to come to terms with the fact that the only man she’s ever loved has walked out of her life without a second thought. Not only that, he has also abandoned their daughter for the other woman

The biggest problem with Ankahee lies in its story itself. To state that it's as old as the hills would be apt, since this theme – love triangle – has been witnessed with unfailing regularity since time immemorial. In today's times, when Hindi cinema is going through a transition phase, plots like these instantly remind you of the social fares of 1970s and 1980s.

The film starts off on an ordinary note and one expects the story to gather momentum once Aftab fall in love with Esha. But nothing happens. In post-interval, the writer and director seemed to have taken the easy way out by relying on the tried and tested stuff, instead of trying to come up with something novel.

In the second half, the tiffs between Amisha-Aftab are petty tiffs, not anything dramatic, which is why the impact is not strong. Another weak aspect of the film is that it has no gloss absolutely. The story moves on an ordinary track and those expecting bigness in terms of visuals or production values will be thoroughly disappointed.

Director Vikram has tackled a few sequences with maturity, but he should've opted for a fresh story . Besides, the pace drops alarmingly in the latter part of the story which makes the climax a long drawn affair.

Pritam's music is the only saving grace. The film has a mix of tuneful and soulful numbers and the picturisation of a few of them is first-rate. Dialogues are just about okay.

Ankahee clearly belongs to Esha Deol, who enacts her part with elan. She springs a surprise with the best performance. Her role is the most emotional and she does full justice to it .Amisha is efficient.

Aftab has probably never heard of a facial expression other than a bland smile, he is totally ignorant of dialogue delivery .

On the whole, Ankahee is too old fashioned a fare, which will not find many takers!
