This one cant go beyond a one star rating - no matter how much I try to
make up my mind. I'll explain the reasons. To begin with, I had been
almost 13 years late in watching the film; dont know, but the look of
it appalled me, and I never went beyond watching 2 or 3 scenes at
maximum, those too few and far between. Today I finally managed myself
to watch it scene by scene, and my hunch regarding it was absolutely
correct. Coz this one not only turned out to be totally appalling but
also is one of the most horrible movies
ever. It was nothing but glorified violence onscreen; with no purpose
whatsoever. I cant get to understand why such a film was produced,
which neither had any sort of entertainment value, no message for the
audience nor can I get the vision of the director. Nor it qualifies as
a thriller. Just 2.5 hours of plain torture which disgusts in every
single frame. Even the comic track involving Johny Lever is totally
vulgar. The production values were bad.
And there's not even a single scene which you can carry with you after
the film calling it memorable. If yes, its for the wrong reason it has
been etched into your memory.
The "wannabe" dark thriller's "wannabe" different storyline is just
there for the sake of it. There's this S-shaped eyebrow business tycoon
Vijay Agnihotri (SRK) who lusts/loves for a million dollar smile
Shivani (Madhuri), and while his antics to woo her over seem to be all
in good fun at first; there's more to him than what he normally shows.
When he realises she has got married to someone else, Mr. Psycho
decides to get more confused. He tries to forget her; yet decides to
win her again after he meets her at a friend's wedding. When he
realises that she deeply loves her husband, he decides to kill
him on an impulse, and later finishes off her entire family
intentionally/unintentionally. This gives way to a sickening revenge
drama when Shivani decides to kill Vijay and all those who were
responsible for her plight.
SRK was good and evoked hatred but I wondered what was his
character like. Do children whose parents spoil him and don't correct
their mistakes in early childhood become mentally unstable psychopaths?
Madhuri spends half the time in her movie crying and the remaining half
throwing abuses at her tormentor. The rest of the cast doesn't impress.
I dont remember what happened when the movie released. But the way
violence has been glorified and depicted was totally unnecessary in the
screenplay. This should have called for some protests by activists. And
if that would have happened, I wouldn't have blamed them for a change.
A Crap of the highest order and a BIG yuck - That defines Anjaam.
Dont watch it even by mistake. It leaves you with a bad taste!
