To Read Or Not To Read!. Review on Angels & Demons - Dan Brown

Reason is supposed to be one of those rare gifts an author is supposed to have and when an author writes without the semblence of reason, then I guess they call it writers block.And unfortunately, Dan Brown seems to suffer from this when writing, ''Angels And Demons''.

The plot is simple, an internationally renowned research facility (C.E.R.N, in Geneva), has a very spectacular discovery made by one of it's top scientists, and things go horribly wrong. Enter Mr. Robert Langdon, (remember The Da Vinci code?) and from there it's a whirlwind story, of the same kind as in the Da Vinci Code, only this time its a different adversery and not to forget the greatest deception at the end as usual.

The story includes all the latest holiday spots for present day fiction writers, Geneva, The Vatican City. As usual, the book starts with a murder and a clue at the crime scene, and a deception portrayed by one of the key charecters.

I agree that scientifically one square metre of a material can reduce 20% of the drag force a body experiences in free fall, but I say whoever has heard a man surviving a 3000 metre jump from a helicopter, clutching a square metre of tarpaulin! Lets see 3000 metres is the distance covered in free fall, the acceleration is earths gravity i.e. 9.8 Mts/Sec,so the speed at the end of a 1000 metre fall is 306.1225 Mts/Sec. Now 20% of that means a decrease of 61.225 Mts/Sec which results in a total of 244.897 Mts/Sec. Converted into Kilometres per Hour it means 68.0269 Kmph.

Now thats at the end of a 1000 metre fall and for Newton's Sake I can't imagine a man falling from a 1000 metre height at that speed and still surviving that. What say thee, he falls into a river? well if thats so, then I say try doing it, come back alive and mail me with your address and I'll come and kiss your roman sandles.

In the good old days when we read the fiction writers, about cold war situations, there were blunders made, but not logical ones. Authors intentionally used to make up some stories about the C.I.A., the K.G.B and the Mossad. But these books very not devoid of reason or logic. And this book is one that fails n logic or rather the lack

of it thereoff.

Sorry mates if you think I'm going overboard with my criticism, then so be it. But calling a spade a spade is not wrong, and my honest advice, abstain from reading this book. There is nothing worth in it. The Da Vinci code was good, it held the reader's imagination,the Deception Point was interesting, Digital fortress was a bit of a drag but was readable. But friends this is a futile excuse for fiction.

FOR THOSE IMPRESSED BY DAN BROWN'S WRITING, AM SORRY MATES, BUT THIS BOOK JUST DOES'NT CUT IT!

So my final judgement is this is a book for light and forgettable reading, borrow it from a friend, read it and return it to him or her with your best regards.

This reminds me of a song by the rock group AC-DC, it was called ''For Those About To Rock We Salute You'', (infact its a good song!) and this book makes me say '' For Those Who Have Read It I Salute You!''.
