Even though I loved'Kite Runner', I consciously delayed reading And the Mountains echoed. Hosseini's'A thousand splendid suns' though beautiful, it drained me emotionally and I feared the Mountain's echoed would do the same.
To be honest'And the Mountains echoed', didn't make me cry but it did evoke thousands of emotions. There are more than a couple stories in the book and some of them will stir your soul and stay with you for a long time, I guarantee. One reason, I enjoy Hosseini's work is because it doesn't deviate from the author's true self. As always Hosseini's major premise is Afghanistan, he knows the culture and he explores it best. You might not relate with the socio-economic conditions of the country in Hosseini's book but you cannot help but identify your self in most of his characters.
The narrative and editing of'And the Mountains echoes' is nothing less than brilliant. Hosseini has beautifully woven several stories and presented his best work yet! Although at times I wished the narrator of a particular story were someone else, but then, I was also glad because it spared me some emotional trauma.
'And the Mountains echoed' is an extraordinary, soul wrenching work of art and a must read for all Hosseini and Majid Majidi fans
