I went to Amritsar with my 4 Friends last Saturday and wow what an experience it was?

Amritsar for the unintended is very famous for 3 things, namely The Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh and The Wagah Border. I would describe all these 3 places later.

Amritsar is 450 Kms. From Delhiand around 8 Hours by Road on a decent Vehicle. Delhi-Amritsar is a very good highway and with lots of Greenery on both sides plus loads of Cities on the way like Ambala, Ludhiana and Jallandhar.

One word describes The Golden Temple which is MAJESTIC; it?s a glorious piece of Architecture with loads and loads of Gold as the name goes. It has a huge Sarovar (Pond) where people normally take a Bath before entering the Gurudwara and we also did take a bath there, there is a separate arrangement for females. On a Sunday there is a huge rush of devotees and one has to stand in a line for around 1 hour, but once you enter the interiors of the Gurudwara you would feel a sense of Peace that I can?t describe. Its just amazing, you feel a part of the God. There is a langar (Provision for Free Food) where everybody can eat for free. There?s a popular saying that nobody sleeps hungry in Amritsar. Also there is a museum in the Complex that narrates the History of Sikhs.

All in All a great experience and a very beautiful place. Everybody must visit The Golden Temple once.

Jallianwala Bagh is a Garden where in 1919 General Dyer killed around 700 innocent Indians without any provocation. This park is made in the memory of those Indians who were in true sense Martyrs. There is a well also where people dived to save themselves from the Guns, There is a Photo Gallery which shows people involved with the Bagh. Also the actual Bullet marks are highlighted on a wall. It?s a serene place where one can feel the pain of thousands of Indians who suffered under the Tyranny of Indians.

Coming to the last Attraction of Amritsar, The Wagah Border is around 45 Kms. From Amritsar and it?s a Border Post between India and Pakistan where every Morning and Evening both the flags are lowered and there is a comprehensive ceremony that takes place daily wherein the Indian BSF (Border Security Force) and the Pakistani Rangers have a small parade sort of thing. I felt a great sense of Patriotism when I was there and there was a crowd of around 7 to 8000 Indians and around 3-4000 Pakistanis on both the sides. There was loads and loads of Patriotic Fervor and people were shouting Pro-Indian Slogans and dancing away to glory. It was simply exhilarating to see the BSF Men of around 6 Feet 8 Inches height shouting and marching in a way which is simply amazing. It?s a place where Indian must go once and feel what being an Indian feels and Means in a true sense.

Amritsar otherwise is a cheap city, we got an AC room just 100 metres away from the Golden Temple for 500 bucks and the food also is cheap. There are 3-4 expensive restaurants there, and one is The Crystal Restaurant where we all went, it?s a damn good place but a little expensive one but has an awesome North Indian Cuisine, also has an Ice-cream Parlour attached. Otherwise one can visit loads of Dhabas where you get very cheap and traditional North Indian Cuisine. Travelling in Amritsar can be done on a Cycle Rickshaw that is the most effective mode of Transport.

One can Shop Punjabi Juttis (a Traditional Punjabi Footwear) and Punjabi Wadians and Papads (Punjabi Delicacies made of Various Lentils).

All in All Amritsar is a great place to visit for various reasons. The best time to visit is from October to March as there is Extreme Weather there.

To conclude I would say Wahe Guru ji da Khalsa Wahe Guru ji di Fateh !!!!!!!
