Recently I made a visit to the most lovely city of India Amritsar , in other words it is called as GURU KI NAGARI. A city which holds utmost importance in this country and contains some historical places such as GOLDEN TEMPLE , DURGIANA TEMPLE , GURUDWARA TARAN TAARAN , WAGHA BORDER and various other religious places. The most sacred city to Sikhs.

By roaming around and talking to the localites of the city one will surely witness the importance which Amritsar holds in INDIA. This city can be recognized on the basis of its importance in various fields such as religion , politics , history , tourism , defense, culture.

RELIGIOUS IMPORTANCE

As mentioned above this city holds utmost importance to the Sikhs who have a considerable share of population in this country. The renowned Golden Temple which looks as resplendent as seen in various pictures and in television with its golden domes gleaming in the sunlight with the water surrounding pool rippling to the strong breeze , the hygiene conditions , the soothing kirtan , makes you feel that you are in heaven.

The best time to visit Golden Temple can be early in the morning or during the sunset in the evening. Moreover , the Langar which continues throughout day and night adds another feather in the cap of devotees , Pujaris(Pujaris are those people who perform the task of priest in temples , gurudwaras ) who spend most of their life serving poor & needy. Many devotees bathe in the pool. Some simply sit on the banks , contemplating waters.

The museum inside the Golden Temple complex with some stupendous collections of paintings gives a deep insight of Sikhism and its voluntary act. All in all it briefs you about the history of Sikhs. Some wonderful buildings surrounding Golden Temple amplifies the beauty of the complex.

The shrine?s importance to the Sikhs can be taken as Kabba?s(Mecca) importance to the Muslims. Furthermore there are many Historical Sikh Gurudwaras including the adorable TARAN TAARAN 22 kms. away from the city.

The Durgiana Temple also holds significance to Hindu devotees.

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE

Historically too , Amritsar cannot be neglected. The name Amritsar itself is a junction of two words AMRIT+SAROVAR (Pool of nectar) which was given to it by 4Th Sikh Guru , Ram Das.

One of the most infamous cruel incident which acts as a microscope to view the level of cruelty of Britishers , the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre. Thousands of innocent people were fired at by General Dyer?s troops who(the people) were there to calmly protest the arrest of freedom fighters of India.

This city was brawled over during the partition of India , which had a major share of Muslim population but was sacred to Sikhs.

Dispute occurred whether it should go to Pakistan or not , the Sikhs who were ready to lay their lives for Golden Temple , their most sacred shrine disagreed to the proposal (whether it should go to Pakistan) , bloodbath occurred and in the end it was decided that Pakistan who doesn?t have any space for Non-Muslims are unlikely to do faith to holiest shrine of Sikhs and hence Sikhs being integral part of India should have their holiest Shrine In India itself and hence the Punjab even by having major share of Muslim Population was given to India which of course included today?s Haryana , hence giving Jolt to Muslim League who tried their level best to integrate whole Punjab in Pakistan.

Another incident which became the reason for the assassination of our most efficient Prime Minister in the history OPERATION BLUESTAR.

An Operation which shoved the Indian Army inside the temple complex and prompted them to fire various deadly rounds to drive the armed terrorist out of the complex and hence taking thousands of lives of innocents along with terrorists.

This resulted in a virtual resentment in the Sikh community , taking the lives of various VIPs , the murder of Indira Gandhi , genocide of Sikhs , increased Terrorist activies , juxtaposing death and life and hence writing a black chapter in the Indian history.

WAGHA BORDER a gateway to peace and prosperity , greenery on both the sides, bringing the people of both India and Pakistan together , a historical demarcation which reminds us our karma(basic duty) of brotherhood. Amazing eye-catcher aerobatics of BSF personals is simply rocking.

TOURIST IMPORTANCE

As a tourist attraction I will keep Amritsar on the top of hot destinations of India , in a recent survey done by BBC it grabbed the 6th place in the world as ?the place which people will die to see? beating Taj which was at No.10.

Temple?s unique looks makes it unique to us , its beauty is definitely a treat to watch , thousands of Sikhs and even non-sikhs people come here to watch it daily. Jallianwalla bagh too becomes tourist attraction enclosing the names of people who died on dreadful day of April 13th,1919.

WAGHA BORDER is surely a place not to be missed , as mentioned above the importance this border holds than any other international border in India , do visit this place at around five in the evening to see magical aerobatic stunts of BSF personals , but you need to come early to occupy the place near to the Border to see it quite comfortably , patriotic songs are too enjoyed by the people before the start of stunts from BSFians , moreover cheer from both sides pours the spice of passion in the whole process.

There are various other places which can be worth watching , some of them are Durgiana temple , Gurudwara Taran Taaran , Gobindgarh Fort .
