Amitabh bachnan who doesn't know his name, The biggest star of bollywood and considered the star of the millenium as well. His father was well known poet by the name of harivansh rai bachnan and mother was I think her name was teji. He was born in allahabad, he used to work freight broker in a shipping firm in calcutta then moved to bombay in 1968. He had a lot of struggle to enter in the movie world, he was rejected in the all india radio.
His entry to movie world was saat hindustani, the movie was flop and didn't do that much for him. In the 70's he got a chance to play a supporting actor next to the rising star rajesh khanna, in the movie called anand in which khanna got a best actor award and amitabh as the best supporting actor award, but after these he's had lot of flop movies, as the solo hero movies like sanjog, reshma aur shera in which he played a mute,pyar ki kahani,bansi birju, ek nazar, raaste ka patthar, bombay to goa, gehri chaal, saudagar were all flops couldn't turn him into a big star.
After all these flops he even tried his hands on playing a villain in the movie called parwana in which navin nischol was the hero, that couln't help him either, Hrikesh mukherjee took him in the movie namak haram, along with rajesh khanna again, that movie happened to be quite successfull at the box office, again fetched him a supporting award.
It was prakash mehra the man who produced and directed zanjeer, that turned amitabh into the biggest star, the film was the turning point of amitabh bachnan's career, mehra gave amitabh a chance during the crucial time of his career. The film also gave hindi cinema an angry youngman, which was something to hindi cinema, never before anybody seen a angry young man like bachnaN.
After zanjeer there was no turning back, along the way came majboor a hit with an excellent performance by bachnan proved he can play a role of a person who was brain tumor as well, he was excellent. Yash chopra's deewar which is still rememberd today and dialogues of the that were given to bachnan we still mouth today. Deewar considered one of the best movie of hindi cinema. The movie has good scenes, and good dialogues were saved with dialogues like jao pehle us aadmi ka sign lekar aao jisne mere hath pe yeh likh diya tha. The movie is amitabh favorite as well, as he said int he interview.
Amitabh's most loved roles were in the movie deewar, sholay,amar akbar anothony,don and trishul, where he often played angry young man and fought the corrupt system, theme that was pretty famous of that period of time. He had great on screen presence, and some flair of comedy as well, as he did in the movie namak halal his dialogue I can talk english and walk english is still funny, But I don't think he has the perfect comedy timing like the actors govinda, aamir khan, sanjay dutt and anil kapoor,dharmendra. On the way he's had other hits like Hera pheri, parvarish,mukkadar ka sikander, Never again he worked with a star like vinod khanna, because in the movies like hera pheri and parvarish amitabh was almost overshodawed by vinod khanna, because khanna was playing the bad guy image.
Amitabh had worked with shatrughan sinha in a lot of movies also like raaste ka patthar, dostana, kala patthar and in dostana amitabh was overshadowed by shatrughan sinha, never again after that amitabh worked with shatrughan sinha, earlier the role of vijay in the movie deewar was desgined for shatrughan sinha, sinha had problems with the director yash chopra and had walked out of the film, then amitabh was roped in, then on the way chopra also had signed amitabh to play romantic roles in movies like kaabhi kaabhi and silsila, which were quite succesfull. Amitabh had a lot of movies with the actress rekha, khoon pasina, mukaddar ka sikander,mr natwarlal,suhaag,silsila, do anjaane and a lot of talks were going on about amitabh and rekha in that time, althought amitabh married jaya bhaduri, right after the movie ek nazar.
Some of amitabh movies from the 80's had a drunken scene in the movies which were very succesfull, In the movie amar akbar anthony,satte pe saata were quite funny as well. Comedy films he has done are chupke chupke, do aur do paanch, satte pe satta which were all hits. He did do some movies with dharmendra as well sholay, and ram balram and rambalram couldn't create the magic of sholay but dharmendra and amitabh had pretty good on screen chemistry.
Amitabh even lighted shashi kapoor's career when shashi was taken a supported actor in a amitabh movie like deewar, trishul, kalla patthar and all were hit movies that made shashi stay in bollywood, because shashi knew he was an average actor. In the begining of the 80's amitabh had pretty good movies, like kaalia,naseeb, laawaris,shaan,namak halal,coolie,sharabi were all hits. In the movie shakti amitabh and dilip kumar were both nominated for best actor and the award was given to dilip kumar for best actor, and amitabh never worked with dilip kumar. In 1982 while amitabh was working in the movie coolie he was injured in an onset accident, was rushed to hospital in a critical on a critical condition and almost died, but recovered.
In 1984 he entered politics in support with a family friend rajeev gandhi, he conestedt allahabad's parliament seat and won. He resigned from politics after 2 years without finishing his term. Amitabh after 1985 had bad and flops came out like how could he work in a movie like jadugaar, toofan,ganga jamuna saraswati, toofan, aaj ka arjun,aakhre rasta were all flops. It was my favorite director Mukul anand who gave amitabh a chance in the movie agneepath, which got amitabh a national award he deserved it's his best performance from my point of view.
Agneepath was something new to bollywood, althought some scenes are taken from hollywood flick scarface, like the entrance of amitabh. mukul anand is an excellent director in the agneepath the scenes were breathking, like young vijay chauhan is is dragging his father's dead body on a wheel cart, while danny as kancha cheena is sitting in his car and laughing, throwing mud at his face was just great. Again mukul anand took amitabh in his next movie hum which was a hit and got amitabh a another best actor award, previosuly he got it for don and amar akbar anthony. Khudagawah was also directed by mukul anand, which was a hit and mukul anand had a great hand on amitabh being succuessfull in the early 90's.
Amitabh took a little break after khudagawah and came back to the screen after two years in 1994 with the movie insaniyat which was a total disaster. Then amitabh again took a break and came back to bollywood with mritudata which was awful film, the movie made big noise due to the song by daler mehndi and amitabh, but the movie was a big flop when it came out everyone was dissapointed. Major saab, lal badshaah were another flops. Govinda who was the big thing in 1998, was taken along with amitabhin bademiyanchot
