Recently I read reviews condemning AB to gallows. I don’t understand how you can judge the caliber of an artist on the basis of a single film, okay he is foolish enough to have acted in BOOM, but that doesn’t mean that you have to ignore all other performances that he has to his credit.
It is not only the generation in 40 – 50 that adore him, even the new age yuppies and yummies adore him to the hilt. If he has become a money making machine it is because he has seen how the filmiworld behaves more than the others. When we say that we have had enough of him and it is time for him to retire, we should not forget that the very same AB had almost been thrown out from the film industry in the early ninties.
It was his good fortune that he got KBC and captured the imagination of all, not only movie goers but also movie haters. He got love and affection of all generation which paved for his revival with renewed vigour.
When Mr. AB suffered humiliation financially and personally, the industry which he had respected and served for long did not come to his rescue. People who adore him and beg him for his favour now never touched him even with a barge pole. In the circumstances it was the mental toughness of the gentleman and the unhindered support of his family which stood by him and he showed what he is made of. We have seen how senior artistes like Meena Kumari, more recently Parveen Babi led there lives after they were shunted out of the filmdom.
In my opinion Mr. Bachhan has experienced failure and rejection as no other artist has, It is this experience which he does not want to relive again. If he is haggard in movies like BOOM he is equally mind blowing in Baghbaan and Black, energetic and captivating in K3G, B&B etc., Even when we see his earlier movies, we come across movies like Ganga Jamuna Sarasawati, Ganga ki Saugandh, Jadugar etc which are fit to be in the cans for ever.
Let’s salute the gentleman who has risen time and again like phoenix and has shown how to fight in the time of adverse.
