For the past two years people from Amex or one of their agencies call me to offer me a credit card. I politely refuse...but they insist on meeting me. They then collect all kinds of documents and leave. After a couple of weeks I get a letter from them telling me that my application has been rejected and I can try after 6 months.

This has been happening for the past two years - even after I changed my mobile number, my office and my residence. I don't understand how they keep track of my numbers and why they do this atleast twice a year.

Recently ( a couple of weeks back) I got another call from Mr.Jacksonlal (Territory sales leader - Consumer cards - American Express Bank) asking me if I wanted the Amex Gold Card. I told him that my application would be rejected as

1.I was not working with a MNC

2.I was not working in a company with atleast 40 employees

(These were the criteria set by Amex according to another Amex representative I met a couple of months back. )

I told him that I do not want to waste my time filling up an application and giving documents. He insisted that these did not apply to me as I was a entrepreneur and Amex understood what that meant. He persuaded me to fill up an application and promised that I would receive the card within two weeks.

I did receive a letter from Amex after two weeks - but it was the rejection letter again! I called up Mr.Jackson and asked him to explain what was happening. He

promised to call me up within hours and let me know the reason for rejection but did not.

I called him after a couple of days and he told me that he was waiting for an email reply from his Delhi office. (He had written to his Delhi office that there was no cause for rejection and asked them to issue the card ;-) )

It's been a week now and he still hasn't heard from them and I haven't heard from him either. I suppose email takes a while to reach people in Chennai!!!!

I guess I'll get a call from Amex within the next couple of months and I can then find out what really happened. However, what I don't understand is why they insist on me going through this exercise every once in a while. Whats in it for them?
