Don't you love those American Sweethearts?. Review on America's Sweethearts Movie

“America’s Sweethearts” – PG-13 – In Theaters Now

Eddie and Gwen (John Cusack and Catherine Zeta-Jones) are Hollywood’s favorite couple. Besides being married they also star in most of their movies together. But Gwen cheats on Eddie with a Latin man, Hector (Hank Azaria), and the couple splits up.

With Eddie and Gwen’s new movie about to be released, Lee Philips (Billy Crystal), the movie’s publicist, must try to reconcile this couple to ensure good movie reviews. The Film Company has another problem on their hands. The film’s director (Christopher Walken) is holding the film reels hostage. Everyone is distressed about this situation and figure if Eddie and Gwen get back together it will take the press’s focus off of the film.

Kiki (Julia Roberts) is Gwen’s sister and personal assistant. After recently losing a great deal of weight, Kiki finds herself doubly attracted to Eddie.

Lee and his assistant Danny (Seth Green) set up many opportunities for the press to see this dream couple together. They don’t care how misconstrued it may be taken, so long as the movie gets rave reviews.

Billy Crystal and Peter Tolan wrote “America’s Sweethearts” and Joe Roth directed it. Cusack, Roberts and Crystal were excellent in this comedy. Zeta-Jones played the high maintenance star quite well, but sometimes overplayed the role. Hank Azaria was hysterical as the Latin Lover. His role in this movie was much like the one he played in “The Bird Cage.” I was also glad to see Seth Green in yet another high profile movie. He has yet to have a big success as a lead in a big movie, but he has been showing up in all sorts of films. He is quite entertaining.

I liked this movie. It was lighthearted and fun and portrayed what I would expect a movie publicist to be like. I never used to care for John Cusack, but more and more I am changing my mind. He was quite good in this movie. I would recommend this movie to people who like these actors or people who are interested in how Hollywood works.
