I have been doing online shopping for as long as I can remember (probably 2002 or earlier from Rediff, Indiatimes, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Myntra etc.)I have had some or the other issue but never the one I had with http://www.amazon.in
First let me tell you that while being in India I have made few successful purchases from http://www.amazon.com(international website) without any problems. I made few others form amazon.in without any problems too. But given the image and reputation of amazon, I had few very basic expectations from it as regards to problem resolution.
A month back or so I bought 4 pieces of headphones through amazon. They turned out to be defective. When I raised the issue, I was told to arrange delivery to the vendor. I requested that since this is a low cost item, it is both a hassle and cost to me do so. But no matter what, despite all the claims they make in their TV ad, RETURNS on Amazon are NOT EASY like they are with Flipkart, Snapdeal, Myntra or Fabfurnish particularly for items bought through amazon listed suppliers.
People in USA swear by AMAZON's customer care system there. But unfortunately AMAZON INDIA is not even able to keep pace with Indian companies. Their whole customer support system is designed to convince the customer that why they can't or won't help him.
The reason one buys online is to avoid hassle and save some money and if in the name of providing customer support these two vital components are compromised, there is no reason to shop online.
Amazon didn't resolve my issue. Rather it accepted in the mail reply that the same vendor had similar complaints and(he had been selling defective products) and has now been removed from amazon.in. But what about the customers who paid trusting amazon brand name.
So my advice is as long as you get a good product at good price on amazon, surely go for it but don't expect too much support from amazon, should you require it.
