Marriage:is it a contract and relation between two individuals or between families? Is it a Community function? Many writers and thinkers tried to send a message throughout centuries but failed so far. No wonder the subject is been considered time again and again. When family blocks an individual choice it became individual's task to convince the family with the plus points of the lover. At the same time the family will be trying to find fault in the selected lover.

In Aloo Chaat, a similar scenario is created and the film invites us to watch how the story progress. Nikhil (Aftab Shivadasani)is just back from US, but his family already started bride hunt for him. He is deeply in love with a muslim girl, Aamna (Aamna Sharif) from US. Keep this in mind, Nikhil refuses each proposal from the family. The family asks the family friend and a Sexologist Hakeem Tarachand (Manoj Pahwa) to check if he had some problems. Nikhil told the truth to Hakeem and both of them plan a drama to get the permission of the family. Watch onscreen the drama they planned and how it ends up.

Aaloo chaat is a light entertainer, fun mixed with day to day life. There is nothing new in the story but there is something in the presentation which keeps one engaged especially in the first half. Director Robby Grewal tried to present the story as something happens around us.

AftaabShivadasani is in his usual form. Sweet and pleasant – and just that. Aamna Sharif remains as a girl next door. She has been let down by the writer. Linda as Nikki is very good! Manoj Pahwa and Sanjay Sharma(as Chhadami) rock in the film. In fact they are the life blood of the film. KulbushanKharbanda as Purushotham, the father is impressive. Meenakshi & Dolly Ahluwalia pair too gives fine performance as mother and grandmother of Nikhil. Overall performance is good but not great.

Cinematography and music is average to good. Doesn't leave much of an impression but doesn't disappoint as well. Editing could have been better, especially in the second half. Cinematography is ok.

Till the interval the film was moving quite well, but the second half was little slow moving and situations were not convincing. Screenplay needed better attention and perfection though the dialogues are adequate.

What went wrong? Character of Aamna doesn't impress. To the contrary, Nikki stole the sympathy from the audience. Many a time felt that it would have been better the situation changes and Nikhil marry to Nikki than to Aamna, even their names match! The relation between Aamna and Nikhil didn't presented well. No word was given about the family of Aamna. The climax was very much predictable after a point but the writers didn't bother to explain the situations leading to it as well.

What works for the film? Witty dialogues and pleasant way of story telling with Sanjay Sharma & Manoj Pahwa's performance.Overall, Aaloo Chaat is a light entertainer worth a single watch to spare some time to relax.
