All the King's Men(2006) is an adaptation of the 1946 Pulitzer Prize winning novel All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren, which was already made as a movie by Robert Rossen in 1949.
It has a huge star cast of Sean Penn, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Ruffalo, Kate Winslet, Patricia Clarkson, James Gandolfini, Jackie Earle Haley, Kathy Baker.
The film is about the life of Willie Stark, played by Sean Penn, a fictional character resembling Louisiana governor Huey Long.
Willie Stark is a simple man, who gets involved in politics and makes it big.
Jude Law plays Jack Burden, who is Willie Stark's assistant and digs up the dirt on his political foes for him.
Willie Stark is plain & honest at the begining. As they say " Power corrupts" once in power, he get's involved in back-room corruption, lies & betrayal.
Kate Winslet plays Jack Burden's ex-love.
Anthony Hopkins plays a judge whose support Willie Stark needs during a political crisis. He initially refuses after which Jack Burden is assigned the job of digging into his past to find something he can be blackmailed on.
Mark Ruffalo, plays Adam Stanton a doctor who ends up supporting Willie Stark.
In terms of performances, Sean Penn was terrific. The power in his political speeches was amazing. Awesome performance by him
The other terrific performer is Jude Law. He portrays a complex character to good effect.
Anthony Hopkins, although on a brief role delivers excellently as usual
