Below you would find a conversation between 2 friends who are in the verge of completion of graduation, and are checking out the future prospects.

M: HEY THE ENTRANCE FORM FOR ALL THE FULL TIME MBA IS OUT. WHY DONfT WE APPLY FOR THE SAME AND AIM FOR GETTING ADMISSION IN A GOOD B-SCHOOLc..

V: NO BUDDY!! I WANA TAKE UP A JOB AND DO A PART TIME MBA. FOR THE SAME I WOULD BE GIVING MAT (MANAGEMENT APTITUDE TEST) WHICH IS CONDUCTED BY ALL INDIA MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION.

M: PART TIME??L. THATfS NOT A GOOD IDEA. IT WOULD NOT FETCH YOU A GOOD JOB AND IT WONT BE A GOOD ADDITION TO YOUR CV. DO A FULL TIME MBA. U WILL START MINTING MONEY AT THE END OF THE COURSE.MOREOVER, THROUGH CAMPUS PLACEMENTS, COMPANIES WOULD APPROACH YOU WITH GOOD OPENINGS.

V: I DONfT WANT TO STUDY FOR 2 MORE YEARS. GOSH! I AM YEARNING TO TAKE UP A GOOD JOB.I WANT TO GET STARTED.EDUCATION WITH PARALLEL EXPERIENCE WOULD GIVE BETTER EXPOSURE. IT WOULD ALSO HELP YOU RELATE THINGS THAT YOU ARE DOING WITH WHAT YOU ARE STUDYING. IT HAS A DIRECT CONNECTION. AND REGARDING THE PLACEMENTS, WHEN YOU ARE ALREADY WORKING, YOU NEED NOT WAIT FOR GETTING PLACED THROUGH CAMPUS RECRUITMENTS. ONCE YOU FETCH THE DEGREE, YOU CAN ALWAYS THINK OF A JOB CHANGE. AFTERALL, MANY COMPANIES CONSIDER EXPERIENCE MORE IMPORTANT. AND BY THE END OF 2 YEARS I WOULD BE EXPERIENCED ENOUGH FOR THE CHANGE.

M: OK. BUT THEN LATER DONfT TELL ME THAT I DIDNfT WARN YOU OR ADVICE YOU CORRECTLY INSPITE OF BEING YOUR FRIEND.I FOR SURE AM GOING TO TAKE UP A FULL TIME MBA. DOING PART TIME IS A SHEER WASTAGE OF TIME. THERE IS NO VALUE ATTACHED TO IT. THE CORPORATE SECTOR ALSO WOULD NOT RECOGNISE IT. WHAT IS THE POINT?

Such is the confusion that many of the college goers go through at the end of their graduation. No doubt at the start of onefs career, one should focus to get into a good full time business school. But joining a third rate B-school and expecting it to give a good education & good placement does not make sense. Rather one can start working and can take up a part time MBA.

But people have major mind blocks about part time MBA. They feel that doing a part time course is very simple and one has to just go and give the exam at the end of the session and they would be awarded a degree. But that happens in correspondence. There are lot many people who donft know the difference between the two.

The part time course offered by AIMA is very well planned. They have evening classes and classes on Saturdays and Sundays. The course structure offered is ideally for working executives. Also, AIMA gives a very good collection of books related to the subject apart from the study guide, which is published by AIMA, which helps and guides the sequence in which one should study.

They offer 12 hours for each subject. And the students should submit 2 assignments per module. Exams are held in the end of each module. And the final degree is given to the student only if he/she submits a project report. This way, the students get a good exposure to the subject they are specialising in.

AIMA is a very professionally handled organisation and helps the working executives to pursue the masters degree in the required field.

But apart from all this the best thing about AIMA is the convocation that was held on the 7th Aug in the India Habitat Centre. I got a chance to attend the same, as I was one of the awardee. This was a very well organised event.

The top shots of the corporate world were the panelists as they behold a senior position in the AIMA committee. The chief guest was Mr.Arjun Singh (Minister HRD). And among the panelists were, Mr.R.Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Alagh, Mr.N.K.Patnaik to name a few.

All the awardees were given the black coat with a hood to wear. They presented the a recording of the programme gShaping young mindh before the convocation started. There were some refreshments arranged.

They convocation started with a sarasvati vandana. And then speech by the chief guest, followed by speech from the other panelists stating the growth plan of AIMA and also announced the countried they are spreading to. Then the degree was awarded to all the students. Then they had organised a high tea for all the students and their relatives.

This was an amazing experience. They could have arranged to send the degree to the respective students. But inspite of being a part time course, they made us feel so good. They organised such a big event. The sense of achievement automatically came to me. Moreover, it was like a reunion for all the batch mates.

Now AIMA is going to increase the number of hours given to students so that they get more exposure to the subject.

AIMA is a recognised institute by AICTE Ministry of HRD. Also it is an umbrella association wherein there are many B-schools who come under them. They are authorised to rate these B-schools and rank them every year. The MAT exam conducted by them is used by lots of institutes for selecting the students.

It has been an amazing experience to be associated with AIMA. Never have I faced any problems with the communication or administrative support. For the contact classes, they have a number of nodal centres, which provides with all the support and services to the students. All the visitng faculties are also well renowned in their area. These visiting faculties are also taking classes in the full time institutes. So there is no compromise on this aspect as well.

So to conclude with, I would say that it is a good choice to do part time MBA if you donft wish to do a full time one. And also I would suggest that AIMA is one of the best for part time course. Please donft underestimate it by saying that it is just another institute giving correspondence courses.
