This is my first movie review here - just conveying what I liked. Obviously, there are many reviews here already and already one features as ROD, which completely covers the movie well.
Just few cents from me:
Bollywood continues to give some real good films since last few months and most important, they are based on true stories. The moment we know that the movie is based on a real life story, our whole perspective of looking at this movie changes.
Story in short: It's about a professor in Aligarh university in his fifties who enjoys spending evening listening to old songs and drinking and some poetry, and how his entire life come crumbling due to a social stigma - homosexuality.
The Marathi professor's privacy is invaded and he is stamped as gay, for which the university suspends him, rips him off the residence allotted to him and so on, he is left shattered.
At this point - a journalist who arrives to capture the story, develops friendship with him, eventually which unfolds many human virtues.
Actors: Hansal Mehta did Citylights earlier with Rajkumar and yet again, he chooses him to play the journalist and I have absolutely nothing to argue on this choice. Secondly, who can play the professor better than Manoj Bajpai(may be Irfan khan?.may be).
Homosexuality isn't a much discussed subject in our society and our culture and law does not accept it as yet - and to have a movie on it is truly an effort worth appreciation. Kudos to Mehta!
