I studied MD medicine at JN medical College, AMU. I found the residency program quite adequate, although there is a general decline in teaching, which I have observed in madras, delhi and AMU where I have received my degrees. I found the students hard working, although I had few serious interactions with students from other departments in universities.
The library is well endowed, and the central university library is actually quite large, though it needs much more in terms of internet faciities, access to paid journals etc. The behaviour of students largely reflects their upbringing, and I think at least between 1999 to 2002, I found it no different from other institutions. The biggest problem I find there is that being an autonomous central government university, there is a lot of inbreeding of faculty. Thus there is very little induction of fresh minds from other universities, which is required for constant academic evolution.
My training in Medicine was quite adequate, though could have been much better. But after having worked at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, I think AIIMS graduates are largely overrated, and we were easliy able to match them.overall, not a bad place to learn and chill out. And great environment, lovely surroundings one will fall in love with.
