Alaipayuthe means Waves. When u see this film, ur heart waves as if water was flowing thru it. Please do see the film. I have seen it 4 times.
This is another film from the gr8 film maker Mani Ratnam. He makes films that no one thinks. And the way he creates it, u feel it was not a film but reality. Yes. He makes films which r realistic. Very very realistic. But they r not documentary films. They have got the mainstream cinema stars like Madhavan and Shalini. This director gets the best out of his actors. That is why u get a solid realistic feel.
Madavan's first film doesn't look like it was his first film. After all it is Mani Ratnam who is directing him. I heard that this guy got the Best Newcomer Actor Award in the Tamil FilmFare Award. He deserves it coz the way he acted in the film is like that. He cud have got the Best Actor Award if Kamal Hasan had not released his Hey Ram.
Well really he has done a wonderful job there otherwise there wudn't b those girls around him.
Shalini has given a real effect in this film. She does the role of a girl in the city. But she is not the hi class type in this. She is an MBBS student who has an elder sister who is working. She is a little adamant with her mother. But shy and nervous before her boyfriend. She does a real good act when her parents say that she is to marry the brother of the person who has come to ask her sister's hand.
The cinematography is gr8. The way the camera moves during the songs r rare to see. In the song Pachai Nirame, the keeps up with song. Kaadhal Sadugudu has the camera dancing smoothly. This camera move has been copied in the Hindi film Mein Hoon Na. That's a real treat to watch. The dance in Snehithenae has been captured nicely.
Another point u have 2 look in Mani Ratnam films is the dialogue. When the Karthik's parents talk abt laws that whether ur girl or any girl on the road can marry my son if he is interested and he is above 21, Shakti's father misunderstands. Well another part where u have to notice the dialogue is in the beiginning when Karthik tells Shakthi's father abt her daughter at the marriage of a friend.
Well last but not the least, it is not the least but one of the most important parts ofthe film. He is always the second hero of a Mani Ratnam film - A R Rahman. His music just goes along the film. And u notice it all the way. The songs that he has composed are really gr8. Pachai Nirame is the pick of the album. The flute is really twisted in the song. That is the sound effect u get when u hear the song. Snehithanae is another melody number. The Endendrum in the start has a real western effect.
In the end I wud like 2 say that U shud watch the film.
