Director-Ananth Narayan Mahadevan

cast-Emraan Hasmee ,Dino Morea ,Udita Goswami

Experimentation is the key word! Aksar is definitely a different film for the Bollywood audience, geared towards a more adult crowd. The film has an interesting concept without doubt but there's always a slip between the cup and the lip…It lacks the punch associated with a genre that tries to amalgamate skin show with thrilling moments. The grip, so essential in a film like this, is missing here and that's its biggest undoing.

Plot

Aksar is a mindless game between three people -- Emraan Hashmee, Dino Morea and Udita.Emraan Hasmee is a fashion photographer who manages to get involved with every second woman .To get a girl under his foot is more of a child play for him .He is one wild man ! Udita Goswami is successful model who gets everything she desires when she wants it. She wants the best for herself. She is an unpredictable woman who can speak nicely one minute and throw something at you the next.Destiny brings them together via a common friend Tara Sharma ,when Udita confronts Emraan for dumping her friend [Tara]!

Another scene....Three years later!

Udita is married to a tycoon Dino Morea .He is a businessman whose horizons are extending with each passing days .But currently ,he is suffering from a crisis as he has lost all his money.Though they are living a content life ,their relationship is devoid of that closeness!

Actua drama takes place when Dino hires Emraan to woo his wife! This comes as a complete surprise to Emraan coz why any man in his right sense would do so! A compromise is reached on the condition that Dino would sponsore his photographs if Emraan is able to play a love game with Udita .That is gonna clear the path of divorce between Dino and Udita!

Emraan exacly does that !Some initial tiffs , love starts finding its way into their hearts. But their love takes a backseat when they are caught red-handed by Dino who in turn asks divorce from Udita! .Here comes another twist! Udita is just not ready to follow those jaded norm of society .She refuses to do that ! To make matters worse ,Emraan is not ready to leave Udita! Thus leaving Dino in dilemma!! Finally,Emraan is murdered and then film moves into a mystery zone. What happens next?Find out yourself! If you have the patience to wade through this Ananth Narayan Mahadevan tale!

critical analysis...

Ananth Narayan Mahadevan returns to the fore after his two ventures DIL VIL PYAR VYAR and DIL MAANGE MORE turned out to be a damp squib at the boxoffice. The film has an interesting cast with a group of ''non happening'' actors and it had generated considerable curiosity on account of its music and erotic-catchy trailers. But the film hardly confirms to expectations generated . The film starts on a promising note and one expects an edge-of-the-seat kind of entertainment, but as the drama unfolds, it fails to retain the interest of the viewer.

To start with, what really prompted the makers to choose this 'bold' subject in the first place ?On the second thought ,one can't blame the choice of a subject for the makers of the film. After all Indian audience have become tolerant to bold subjects over the years, 'MURDER' being prime example of this statement. In this context ,Mahadevan and his team of writers should've come up with a screenplay that would've kept the viewer on the razor's edge, but the writing is so mediocre and lacklustre that you want to tear your hair in disgust!

In the first hour, a few sequences are well penned and executed indeed, like the meeting between Dino Morea and Emraan Hasmee ,the sequence between Emraan and Udita and the point where Udita refuses to sign on those divorce paper. A few twists and turns in the post-interval portions also catch you by surprise. You expect the drama to be far more absorbing with the murder of Emraan Hasmee .But sequence that follows are irrational and implausible! The climax is an apt example of the writers taking the viewers for granted. Meaning, the way these sequences have been penned and executed give an impression that a bunch of kindergarten kids were entrusted the responsibility of writing the screenplay.

By the time the climax arrives and the ending is revealed the viewer is exasperated as the movie fails to strike a chord. Mahadevan has opted for daringly different ending but in the process confuses the viewer and makes the movie feel like a waste of time

Himesh Reshammiya's music is a plus point. The tracks are catchy and come easy on the lips. 'jhalak dikhlaja' and 'lagi lagi' can be singled out. The choreography of 'jhalak dikhlaja' stands out and deserves special mention.

Cinematography is up to the mark. The lavish expenses and the striking locales of London have been captured with elan on celluloid. Dialogues are excellent. Actually, those erotic liners heighten the impact of several sequences. However, one wishes the editing was crisper, mainly towards the second half.Like all Emraan Hasmee starrer ,the movie has a lot of kissing scenes and bed room lines. Surely, it's not something that you would like to take your family to watch.

performances....

Peformance-wise, Emraan Hasmee gives his level best to his role and even manages to give a remarkable conviction to his performance, despite the limitations of the screenplay. Udita performs well but she is loud at some places and irritates at places...Director makes good use of her hot body and Udita shows plenty of skin for tittilation purposes including shots of her clevage. Dino Morea is as wooden as a plank of wood and fails to leave a mark.He is just not in form! Tara Sharma hams throughout .Rest of the cast is passable.

conclusion......

Overall AKSAR is one to avoid. If you're after a decent fare go catch something like RANG DE BASANTI , if you're after a hardcore sleaze fest then rent the DVD of MURDER!
