Ajmer, the city apparently is small, but no less than a developed city, well connected by road & railways, however nearest airport is @ Jaipur which is about 135 Kms i.e. 3 hours drive.

One will be surprised to see, cycle auto's in city, though you will get new Auto's also, but make sure you fix a correct fare. However New Auto's & Cycle Auto's fares are same. However going by Cycle Auto will take some more time.

The Auto Rickshaws in Rajasthan dont use Meters, for deciding fare. At first instance they will say some exhorbitantly high amount. What should be the correct fare then?

As per my observation, whatever amount they say, one should directly reduce 33% less & tell them the same amount.

For example if they say Rs.30 you say Rs.20 which is reasonable.

Following are Fares - From Railway Station - To Central Bus Stand - Rs.20

From Railway Station - To Dargah - Rs.15

From Central Bus Stand - To Dargah - Rs. 20

@ Dargah, it would be advisable not to carry lot of cash & mobile phones, however there is no restriction on mobile phone, still it would be advisable not to carry the same since chances of theft are very high.

On seeing new travellers, rickshaw drivers will suggest hotels & guest houses, it will be advisable to inquire on your own. Since they eat away the commission & chances of getting discounts on hotel room gets meagre, since the discounted amount goes to rickshaw driver.

@ Dargah one will find lots of people, who will say put cash in "Chaddar" do not believe in them nor fall in their trap.

One Piece of advice is, it would be advisable to travel by taxi or private bus, than travelling by State Transport bus, since the buses are in pathetic state & stop @ each bus stop, there is nothing like express buses in Rajasthan unless one is travelling by a private Travel agency bus.

One can get good deals on dresses, since there are lots of dress shops i.e. "Chudidars, Punjabi Dresses, Kurta's & Sarees.

A non-AC hotel room will cost about 400-500 Rs. Nagpal Tourist Hotel is a good alternative, not one of the best options available, but neither worst as well. Its just opposite Railway Station.
