Sex,is the hottest topic in Bollywood.Earlier,this word was not even used in Bollywood films,but now nobody minds the word or the topic ?sex? used in Bollywood.Right now I am talking about Abbas-Mustan`s latest film,?Aitraaz?,a film which deals with sexual exploitation.Abbas-Mustan are the same people who gave us bold thrillers such as ?Ajnabee? and ?Humraaz?.
Both the films were above-average entertainers,but I`m sorry to say that their latest flick is not.Maybe,because we have seen lots of films like,?Aitraaz?,recently,or whatsoever,the reason may be,but the thing is that this film is NOT at all,entertaining.
THE FILM:
Mukta Arts Ltd.?Aitraaz?,directed by Abbas-Mustan,stars Akshay Kumar,Kareena Kapoor,Priyanka Chopra,Amrish Puri and Paresh Rawal.The trailers of the film say that this film is based on the most controversial subject,but hey,haven`t we seen several other movies based on this so-called ?controversial? subject?
THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:
1.Raj Malhotra(Akshay Kumar):Raj Malhotra is a happily married man but his life gets miserable when his boss`s wife tries to exploit him,sexually.Akshay Kumar,sleepwalks throughout the movie.He looks too disinterested throughout the movie.Maybe Priyanka,through her seductress act,couldn`t charge his battery this time!Seriously,Akshay Kumar was pathetic in this movie,despite being such a great actor and after giving such an excellent performance in ?Mujhse Shaadi Karogi?.A huge disappointment!
2.Priya(Kareena Kapoor):Priya is the much loved wiofe of Raj,who is living happily with her husband,until circumstances challenge her to prove her worth to her husband.Her husband is in a problem and she has to help him out.Kareena Kapoor also gives a lackluster performance.Infact,she has nothing at all,to do in the first half of the movie and it is only towards the climax,in the court room scenes,that she is required to act.Sadly,there too she fails miserably.Her dialogue delivery was very poor.
3.Sonia(Priyanka Chopra):Sonia is a seductress,who can seduce anyone in order to get what she wants.Today,she has money and the power to do anything,to even force someone to make love with her.Priyanka Chopra makes sexy face expressions in the movie and whispers,throughout for 3 long hours-that`s it,what she does!Is that known as acting?I don`t think so.If this lady thinks that acting as a seductress means to whisper throughout the movie,into the heroes ears,then she is wrong.She should learn how to carry off such roles,in future.
Amrish Puri as Ranjit Roy and Sonia`s [Priyanka Chopra`s] husband (what???),has nothing do in the movie,at all.He has just three scenes in which he has to deliver some dialogues,and that`s it.Paresh Rawal,is the only one who performs well,as the lawyer from Sonia`s side.Annu Kapoor is irritating,as Raj`s lawyer friend.The ?abba-dabba-chabba-? lady from ?JUDAAI? (remember her),is too irritating.Beware of her,because she will get on your nerves,and the weak-hearted people should not go to see this movie,because they might have a heart attack,as this lady speaks so loud.She is terrible at comic roles!
THE STORY:
This film starts just like a typical Bollywood love story.Raj Malhotra meets Priya,one fine day and later on proposes to her,about marriage.Both of them get married and live a happy life.By now,Priya also gets pregnant.Raj is very excited as he is going to get the post of a CEO in his company,which is owned by Ranjit Roy.The day,when announcements are to be made,Ranjit Roy`s wife,Sonia announces,everyone`s post,and to Raj`s surprise,he gets even a higher post than that of a CEO.The one who gives him this high post is Sonia Roy.What we discover,is that Raj starts getting very uneasy with Sonia and Sonia is always trying to flirt with Raj.
One night,Raj recalls his relation with Sonia.When Priya was not there in Raj`s life,Raj met Sonia,and both of them were madly in love with each other.As Raj and Sonia used to live together,Sonia got pregnant,but she got her child aborted as she wanted to make her modeling career,and did not want to get in family planning so early.Coming back to the present,Sonia is a very powerful and rich lady,today.
One night Sonia calls Raj to her house,when her husband are all her servants are gone.She tries to seduce Raj and asks him to sleep with her,otherwise she would get him out of his job.Raj rejects his offer,and the next day,Sonia spreads this rumour that Raj tried to rape her.As a result,Raj is thrown out of his job.Now,Raj files a case against Sonia that she tried to exploit him,sexually.Will anyone trust Raj?Will Priya,his wife,support him?
THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Abbas-Mustan,the directors do a very poor job.There are only two well executed scenes in the film.The scene where Sonia is introduced and you get to know that she is Ranjit Roy`s wife,who is old enough to be her father,has a lot of shock value.Secondly,the court scenes,are a bit interesting,thanks to a brilliant performance by paresh Rawal.Rest of the film is unbelievable!
The initial scenes of the film,when Priya is mistaken that Raj is a lwayer,and Raj thinks that priya has come to his house as a maid,is completely a waste of time and irrelevant.The film should have been started by showing that Raj and Priya are already married,because the comedy in the first 15 minutes of this film is horrible and irritating!The scene where Sonia calls Raj to her house,and tries to seduce him,is shot terribly.The scene when Priya goes to Sonia and talks to her face to face,looks funny.It is so filmi!
Screenplay is half-baked.First of all,why does Sonia try to seduce Raj and why does she want him to make love with her,is not well-explained.Secondly,why doesn`t Priya object with Raj,when she gets to know that before their marriage Raj used to sleep with Sonia and also had sex with her.No wife would ever live with her husband,if she comes to know that her husband had a pre-marital sex with someone else.
Editing could have been a lot more better.The film drags too much without any reason.There are also too many songs in the film,which could have easily been
deleted.Cinematography is good!Himesh Reshammiya`s music is very,very ordinary.There is nothing new or fresh to the music.The only song which stands out is ?Gila Gila?,picturised on Akshay Kumar and Karreina Kapoor.?Tu Hai khushboo?,picturised on Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopar is slightly better than the rest of the songs.?Wo Tassavur Ka Aalam? and ?Talaa Tum? are a complete waste of time.
