Ash - You Go Girl!. Review on Aishwarya Rai

I think Ash is one hell of a woman and that she belongs to the super achievers club which currently consists of Karthikeyan, sania, Vishwanath etc. It is not a mean achievement to be invited as a jury member of cannes, have your wax statue at Tussauds and get the red carpet treatment from hollywood for the premiere of the unjustly maligned b&b. Come on guys if beauty was the only criteria for her achieving the above then I am sure Madhuri, Juhi et all would have achieved the same as they are as beautiful as her.

What is it about Ash that brings out the worst in Indian media. She is very meanly and unjustifiably derided by the media for everything. They seem to have something personal against her. Same with her boyfriends. When salman Khan was with her he was derided. Now that he is no more with her suddenly he is being treated with a lot of goodwill. Similarly the moment Vivek started seeing Ash, the media till then who found him to be the next Superstar suddenly switched gears and found him to be the next big Zero.

Why this animosity against Ash? People keep complaining that Ash giggles too much. Well tell me which actress doesn’t. Last I checked all actresses from madhuri to Juhi to Preity keep flashing their pearlies at every given opportunities. That Ash is plastic. Actresses like Preity Zinta are being lauded for her one tone acting (that of a vulnerable bubbly girl) but ash who has tried to play differed characters in HDDS, Chokher bali, Devdas, Kandukondein, Raincoat, Iruvar only gets criticisim.

On a personal level, I admire a lot of things about her.a. Her guts to go public about the abuse she suffered from salman. Knowing our conservative culture and the fact that the film industry at the end of the day is a very close unit always protecting the big guns, it really took guts from her part. She could have easily kept quiet like Salman's previous girlfriends. b. She didn't think twice about saying no to Sooraj Bharjatiya (SB) due to date problems when he offered her Hum sath sath hain though at that time he was a superhit director and she had only flops to her credit. Any other actress would habe said yes to SB and given problems to the other small time directors. c. She worked with SLB when he was more known for his flop Khamoshi and when as he said on record most of the actresses were hesitant to work with him. d. To take up cudgels with SRK and SLB though both of them at that time were Super Stars. While every other actress were gushing over King Khan only she had the guts to call out on him.

And that is the reason I think media is aginst ash because at the end of the day she doesn't play by the rules and is her own person.

As an actress I admitt she still has to polish up on her acting. She was very good in raincoat but her performance in many other films leaves a lot to be desired. She has some awkward mannerisim in the way she uses her hands, which is very distracting. Her dialogue delivery too needs improvement. However heartening is the fact that she shows a keen willingness to improve. I was most impressed by her acting in Kandukondein where I think she managed to convey the Character perfectly.

Going to hollywood is no joke. It is easier being the Frog in the Well than in the Ocean. The competition there is also more intense and obviously tough. I am really shocked the way our media here instead of applauding her for the same goes on making fun of her. I do not know whether she will make it or not. But for me she is an achiever because she was the only one who had the courage to expand her horizon and whatever her critiques may say She does represent the face of Bollywood to the west. And the west seems to be mighty happy with it. I for one am truly proud of her an as Indian and I wish her all the best. I think one genre in movies, which she still has to explore, is comedy. Seeing her enact comedy in Jeans and the recent Coke advt. I think we will be pleasantly surprised.
