Does the communication world have a holiday. All over the world the technical departments work 24X7 and in Airtel the tech department goes off on Saturday and Sunday, so iam made to believe.


Ok to begin with, We are airtel subscriber by necessity rather than choice, the place I live, Bhadrachalam is a remote area and Airtel was dare enough to put tower and serve us, for which we need to congratulate their efforts.


I got a message one day explaining the 99STD offer, I also got a call from Airtel, which said the same thing. By opting this service, I has to pay Rs 125 and we can call to any STD cell or Land for 99ps per minute.


As im out of my state and many of my friends stay away from Andhra Pradesh, the offer really enthused me. Actually I had asked for availability of such service earlier.


So as my current card was of Rs 450, by which the facility could not be availed , I was told to get the facility, after I recharged this month.. Which I could not recharge with Rs 450 (as the Rs 450 has an offer of 49ps to any local mobile no), So I opted for rs 551 card and sent an sms to 141 as instructed in the sms that was sent to me.


Interestingly I got a message ''thanks for opting 99STD offer, your transaction is being processed.'' When I got this message I again called the Customer Executive who said that the service will be put on in 48 hrs.


I was surprised when I did not receive any messages on tuesday, neither was any money cut from my balance. astonished as I was, I called the Customer ''Care'' executive again and enquired about the card,


I was told by the Gentleman that the message did not reach them~!!!


Is it not interesting!!


But he was nice and intelligent and by listening to my name I think switched over to Hindi and said : '' Main aapse vinanti karta hu, krupaya iss sms ko dubara bhejiye'', I said ok and sent it down.


The next thing I did was to clarify whether the message had reached or not and I was told that the server is down, but strangely, I got a message confirming ,my request!


The funny thing was that the Customer Care Executive is so much habituated to the words : ''Have I Provided the Information u needed'' that he forgot that the Server was down and that he was not able to provide the information!!!! I reminded him the same and told him to adjust accordingly.


I called again to know the confirmation, and this time the gentleman said it has reached him and that will be done in 72hrs, I explained to him that I had sent another message on 23rd (sunday) and I asked him to do a favour by checking it out!'' , the gentleman came out saying that the technical services depts are having holidays on saturday and sunday and so no transaction will be done by them.


Interesting is it not!??


Well, I told him when the system is closed why should I get a confirmation regarding my transaction being Processed? and asked to lodge a complaint. He said that he will send the message across to the Tech dept and that the voice will be heard by them, When I insisted that I want to lodge a complaint, he said that such a complaint will be launched only after I finish the call, I was arrogant and insisted that a complaint be noted, and then he took it seriously and gave me a complaint No,


Strangely the sms was accepted within 24hrs and money was reduced from my balance and the service was activated within 28hrs!


Is it an effect of the complaint. I dont know.


Well thats Airtel.


I don't complain that the tech Dept does not function on Sunday, what I complain is when they do not work on sundays, why did they confirm acceptance!?
