First thing I like to talk about is my surprise about people choosing postpaid connection for mobile service. When compared to prepaid and postpaid tariffs, there is absolutely no difference. But in the UK, or USA post paid customers get a nice as free or for a nominal charge. The tariffs are also different.  In India postpaid customers get nothing extra. They do get some free minutes. But if you choose the right plan for the same amount of bill, you could get free minutes even on prepaid connection. In this context, I consider postpaid connections as the biggest joke in the mobile phone history of India.

So I obviously chose a prepaid connection. No I have freedom not only to to recharge at denominations suitable to my calling requirements but also have the freedom to ditch my service provider(presently Airtel) if needed. The only thing I like about Airtel is I can reach the customer service in a very easy way from my mobile. I do not try to get hold of a call center executive. Rather I type Query space and message and SMS it to 121. I get a reply within three days to my satisfaction. That service is good enough for my requirements. The thing I was unhappy about is their GPRS service. It is not only slow but also very expensive(Rs.15 per day)  for that speed. Mobile Internet has still a long way to go in India.

In some countries mobile companies offer internet at 3mbps. Except for the brand image and customer service, I do not find anything extra exciting about Airtel. Airtel has to improve its website a lot. For me finding information about different recharge options is always a pain. The latest RCs are not updated quickly. I think Idea is muh better in providing such information on its website. These mobile companies bring so many recharge options that I doubt one day their computers may crash. I have no doubt our mobile operators are really capable of confusing computers! All in all, I find Airtel service satifactory and nothing exciting about it. I can recommend this product to new customers. But don't go for a postpaid plan!
