Airtel is one of the most advertised, media savvy cellular provider. But today I would like to expose their level of service.


I had airtel connection for a few months and applied for disconnection. Initially they said that since I had roaming the deposit would be returned only by 60 days, otherwise the normal time schedule is 30 days. The cheque would reach me by courier.


I was happy and returned home. Then when I went back after 60 days, having not received my cheque. They said that there was a minor problem and the cheque would reach me in a week. I thought, okay let me give them a few months, what with all the trouble TRAI is giving to them.


And it was more than 6 months since I had given my termination letter. There was no cheque or intimation or any other form of communication from airtel. They went on with their advertisements and added A. R. Rehman, Kareena Kapoor, Madhavan et. al. to their list of endorsers and left this poor customer in the lurch.


Now I thought this is getting serious. These $# aren't going to be the least bothered about a former customer and I as the consumer should be proactive. I had to go to their office in Nungambakkam nearly everyday for a week. Each day one of those `makeup' customer-car-executive would say one reason or the other and said it would be ready within two or three days. They couldn't even give me proper reasons why it had got delayed so long or allow me to visit any of the higher official. They also said that I was not the only one who was affected, but a whole lot of people got affected. Now this only makes things worser.


Finally I received my checque today.


The bad part of this whole experience is that they seem to be thinking that they have a great consumer care setup with computer systems giving them online data, pretty ladies at the helpdesks, chocolates at the desk, a TV set, regular cooldrinks. But who needs all these if they are not able to clearly tell me when I would recive my payment or why my payment is getting delayed.


I really doubt that they had delayed the payment knowingly.
