I have been an Airtel customer for 8+ years(Current Account Number: 1022059299). Many times I completely ignored even major negligence from Airtel just because I wanted to retain my cell number( even then, I was forced to change number once). I would have continued this(usage of 2000 rs on an avg every month) if not for my latest experience after which I cannot stand any further.


It all started when I had to travel to the US last November and wanted to activate international roaming during my travel. I had called up Airtel customer service and had a detailed discussion about the process of activation and the roaming rates. I was told that the rates would be 60-70 Rs per minute. Purely based on this confirmation, I activated international


roaming on 25 Nov.I was back in India after 18 days. I had used the phone sparingly while in the US, mainly to speak to my family while I was traveling. To my astonishment, I got a bill of 12K for the billing period! When I checked the roaming rates, I found that I was charged at 193 Rs/min! The bill that I had got was 3-4 times what I was told it would be.


I have spoken to the customer care more than 10 times since - 5 different executes and one appellate officer. I had explained my issue in detail to each one. Three different people told me that they have noted my complaint and would make some adjustment. The next time I called, I was told that there is no complaint registered for this whatsoever!


On top of this, I was asked to call up appellate officer and it was routed to an automated system which ask people to contact 121 or 678 for complaints. I went back to 121 once more to check if they can connect me directly to any officer and they came back with the usual comment, "Sorry, We do not have the provision to that from here". I tried many times again and finally I was connected to so called appellate officer. I had to start over again only with a hope that this issue will be addressed promptly. The officer sounded very convincing and took notice of all the points(even provided me with her number) and promised to call me back, but never returned. She just vanished!.


After all this agony, I continued getting calls from new representatives informing me about my pending payments and I attended some of them as usual. The most aggressive move from "very very customer friendly" airtel happened 2-3 days back, in the form of barring my outgoing facility. Once again I called up my only resort, 121 and explained the whole saga. The executive put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back saying that I have already been informed of my due amount quite a few times. Additionally I was asked to check with appellate officer for more details. I only had a simple question to this officer as to how am I supposed to make call any other number other than 121 when my outgoing is barred. His immediate answer was to use any other cell phone!


I am all stuck here waiting for my incoming barring to follow. Please help in getting this resolved.
