Firstly, some history. My brother has Tata Sky at his home(Hyderabad) and he referred my dad to Tata Sky and he also got the same installed in Chennai at his house. Now, I would have also gone for the same, considering all the nice features in it, but there was a minor problem. My wife and daughter are great fans of one particular program on Zee Telugu(Sarigama), and Tata Sky was not having it on any of their packages(I realized one day late that they now do have the same)! Anywayz, that made me think of other DTHs. Big TV was pathetic said one of my cousins, believe me, because of its remote control! I never had Dish TV on my mind after reading all the reviews earlier. So, the choice was between Sun Direct and airtel. Having been brought up in Chennai and having seen all the freebies that the Sun group offers with its products, for promotion sake, call it prejudice, was not very comfortable with going for Sun Direct. Left me with Airtel as the only choice.
Okie, now that I decided Airtel, I went and paid the money on a Monday morning, for a South package, with one year subscription free for all south indian language channels and the cost was 2k for 1 year(including installation, everything). Within 2 hours of buying the box, I got a call for installation, and they fixed up the timing. They arrived exactly at the said time and the installation got over in 45 minutes. I was really surprised and happy with the time management in his whole issue.
Now, I do not think I need to talk much about the reception quality, having said its DTH. But still since I do hear news about some places where reception is not good, I want to add that the reception quality is pretty good.
Having gone for a south package, I wanted to add a couple of top-up packages, Espn group and Pogo/CN for my daughter. Now, here I want to mention this. all the top-ups have been well grouped and you can select the packages you want. I called up the call center and they said I should have a "balance" in my account for this. I could use the conventional route or the internet route. I went for the internet route and I could easily "recharge" my account with the site having all the banks' netbanking(I used Axis Bank). Then I called the call center again and they added my packages stating they would be activated in 2 hours. They told your cycle starts from 26th and any time you want to cancel it, it will be active only from the next 26th(I want to state this coz someone had mentioned that you can activate any date and deactivate any date, I really am not sure whether the reviewer is rite or the call center guy).
I would have liked to have many Movies in the "live" piece, but the options are too limited. I would love to see more here. There are many more features in the "live' which I have to try to comment. Maybe I will add another update after checking them!
In summary, I have had a wonderful experience with Airtel Digital. The installation, reception quality, recharge, everything is too fast and its an enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend this product.
