Applying for new airtel broadband - Think Twice

I am using BSNL dataone connection for last 4 yrs and I am quite happy with the speed and connectivity. Recently I came across the Airtel's new 1299/- plan for 512 KBps unlimited plan and I thought of shifting to Airtel Broadband. I had heard from my friends that airtel service is good. So I called the call center and requested for the broadband connection.


Then after 2 days an agent from Airtel came and he took 1000 Rs installation charge and promised to give the connection in 3/4 days (without doing any feasibility study). But after one week, there was no connection and I didn't event get a phone call from Airtel. Meanwhile I was planning to disconnect the existing dataone connection, as I didn't want to pay dataone connection monthly bill(assuming that I will get the airtel connection). But luckily I was lazy enough to do that.


I called the sales agent guy twice and he told me he will let me know the status but never called me back. Then I called the airtel customer care after 1 week and they told me the status for the connection is showing "Technical Not Possible to give the connection". Finally they forwarded the request to their local airtel office and after 3 weeks, I got to know that they could not provide the connection to me. And the reason they gave - "Some cable chocking in my area" . FYI, I am staying at the heart of the Bangalore city and there is an airtel broadband setup box in my building and people have taken connection from airtel in my building. So I am not sure what exactly the "CHOCKING" means and why can't they improve the infrastructure to give the connection that to in a prime location. But luckily I got back my 1k draft after 1 month.


Also recently one of my friend shifted to a new apartment. He was using airtel broad connection for last 2 years but airtel is not giving connection to him stating the same reason "Cable Chocking problem".


So incase you are planning to switch to Airtel from Dataone or any boradband connection, just think twice before disconnecting the existing once.


BTW, I am very happy with the dataone connection and will never apply Airtel again after this horrible experience.
