Having personally used Airtel broadband service in Delhi/Mumbai/Gurgaon/Noida, I can vouch for it. Have never had any issues in terms of serivce or internet speed(as per the plan opted). Its plans are also the most aggressive among private players.
Have also used MTNL in Mumbai earlier and it was also a reliable service till the time you start facing any issues such as overbilling which happened to me once and I had to go over to the MTNL exchange to sort it out.
Presently I am using DoCoMo broadband as Airtel doesn't have wiring in the apartment I reside in. Plans are quite steeply priced for the offered benefits(speed/data usage limits) and I am sorely missing Airtel broadband).
Overall I rate Airtel the best bet for Broadband. Followed by BSNL/MTNL if you can keep your cool with the sarkari way of working there.
