I filled up the online form for a demo of Airtel 4GLTE. I was contacted within 30 minutes of submitting the online request and demo was fixed for the next day. The executive arrived bang on time. At the time of demo the upload and download speeds were impressive.
I immediately purchased the 4G LTE wifi device and completed all necessary paperwork. I was told there will be a verification the next and and within 24hrs of address verification my connection will be activated.An Airtel guy showed up for address verification the next day as promised.
Beyond this point everything changed.The connection was not activated for the next 48 hrs. I called up the customer care for help. The customer care demanded the 10 digit dongle number. I was not given any such number and I suggested that they may ask me any other detail which may be on the sim or the box. But the customer care expressed its inability to help me without a dongle number. I called the sales representative to find out the dongle number. He promised to get back to me in some time with the dongle number. Which he never did. I got agitated and reprimanded him for not taking my concern seriously. With great difficulty I was able to get the dongle number from him.
I loged a complaint in customer care and finally got a message after couple of hours saying that service has been activated. I tried connecting using the given password (printed on the router). The password did not work. Called customer care again and they gave me an awful lot of setting changes. Nothing worked. Finally I was asked to connect using LAN cable. For this I had to buy an adapter worth Rs 2500 for my Macbook Air which does not have a LAN port. Called customer care again and changed the password. The 4G router began to work.
Few days later the router developed a bizarre problem. The wifi signal would vanish on its own where as the display panel would indicate wifi on. Back to customer care again. This time I was advised to master reset the wifi router. This again restored the old wifi password which was not known. So had to connect to the LAN cable once more to modify the password.
Wifi signals are still intermittent. Airtel customer care promised to send technician for this but the technician never came instead preferred to speak to me on the phone and closed the case. I am having to frequently reset the router to get visible/usable wifi signals.
To add more insult to injury over the last few days the speed has dropped considerably and the counter showed 4 hrs time to download 9mb file. An iTunes movie rental failed to download and got stuck midway. I have sought a refund from iTunes and I'm waiting for it.
The online speed test also does not work as probably the speed is too slow for it to work. Absolutely no energy or willingness left to speak to customer care anymore.
Overall Airtel 4G LTE is a total disaster.
