I am flying internationally for 5 years. Generally, I prefer non-stop flights for my travel in both domestic as well as international travel. Last time while traveling through Air India flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad on Jan 28th, 2018, I had very bad experience during the baggage check-in. This was my 2nd flight after my Shanghai to Delhi flight. When I reached to the Air India counter for boarding pass they weighed my baggage. As per ticket rule, I am allowed to carry 27kg and I had actually 26kg. But in their weighing balance, it showed 28kg. I requested him to allow me because I was traveling from Shanghai with same luggage and how can I through after reaching to India. They did not allow me even for 1 kg extra and they asked me to remove 1 kg luggage. And finally, ended up throwing some gifts I bought from Shanghai. Another thing is this domestic flight is highly uncomfortable and so congested. The Flight hostages are very rude.
This was not the first time. Mistakenly I had booked another Air India flight for Feb 24th, 2018 from Mumbai to Shanghai because they were allowing me extra 20kg check-in baggage. The flight number is AI 348. As per their baggage rule mentioned on their website I am allowed to carry 40kg Checkin baggage because I have a student visa. I have also confirmed after online booking by calling to air India customer care I am actually allowed with 40kg in total and they said yes. I asked them to send me confirmation mail but they said they don't send this kind of mail. I just need to show my student visa to the staff while taking check in and they will allow me. So, on the day of traveling When I reached to air India counter for boarding pass, they did not allow me with extra 20 kg baggage saying I am just allowed only one time as I had traveled past year availing this facility. However, there is nowhere its mentioned that it's availed for one time on this flight. I had to fight with the Air India staff and asked to call their manager. I have reported the problem to a higher authority and it took me almost 1 hr. Fortunately, I was early for check-in to fly to Shanghai. And the issue solved with the help of manager because the proof I was holding, A student visa and they allow 40kg luggage specifically for that AI348 flight from Mumbai to Shanghai. And that can be availed any time you fly with a student visa. Thus the staff seats on the boarding counter lack proper knowledge and create an issue every time.
I would never prefer Air India again except if there is no any other option left.
