After reading many of the reviews on Air India, I was a pretty hesitant to fly with them. But I decided to give it a try anyways. My flight was from Los Angeles int. airport to Bombay with a short layover in Frankfurt. The flight departed on time at 7:15 west coast time. The first leg of the flight takes about 10 1/2 hours. Dinner was served within and hour of takeoff. This particular dinner was horrible. I believe I saw a taj sats catering label on the cart, which would mean that the food was from India as opposed to LA. The left over food from the last flight. The rice was tasteless and the lamb was watery. It just wasn't very fresh. The diet pepsi was nice though. After, that it was lights out and time to sleep. The flight was about 1/3 full, so I got 3 seats to myself and was able to get some sleep. Each seat had its own TV screen, but only a few of them were even working. Some people were pissed off about that. Before landing in Frankfurt, breakfast was served. This was an imoprovent on dinner, but I was so hungry even after finishing. I was able to get a couple extra rolls from the flight attendent.
Now If you have seen my earlier review on McDonalds, you will call me a hypocrite, but I was really hungry and this was my only option. I got fries and chicken mcnuggets from McDonalds during the layover. You are allowed only 20 minutes to get the food. The layover is a total of an hour and 30 minutes.
Back up in the air the flight to Bombay was shorter and the lunch this time was much better. The lamb was excellent. I dined well. this part of th trip took about 9 hours. We landed at bombay before 4 am and I was out of the airport by 4:30.
The name of the plane was elephanta. It was an old elephant allright. The cabin staff was very helpful, which I was surprised by. Overall, I had a fairly plesent flight. Take Air India LAX to bombay if you want to get there as quickly as possible.
