Dear brothers and sisters , the heading to this review is self explanatory . The news around the sorry state of AI is the eye of the storm . The national carrier the so called pride of India is now reduced to lowly last among the aviation brethren .
So pathetic is the case that it is now gone to the Government with a BBB ( Bailout Beggars Bowl ). Giving some thought to the sequence of events that have now reduced the airline to its current state lead us to the following conclusion .
AI now projects accumulated debt to the tune of 7500 crores . Needs immediate cash infusion of 5000 + crores to be optimistic of a turnaround .Is now thinking of Low cost model in 2009 , when all the carriers have been in this at least 7-8 yrs ago.Has not be able to achieve Synergies despite IA + AI merger
The biggest responsible contributor to AIs woes is the Civil Aiviation Ministry which has Praful P in the saddle from the last 5 yrs who is witness to this great debacle and is now using the taxpayers hard earned and precious to bail out a lethargic / un competitivte airline . Precious money that can be used to feed/clothe/educate/care for so many of our underprivileged Indian brethren . The below quote throws ample light into the actions of the Ministy ...
But what hit the airline most has been the civil aviation ministry's generosity towards foreign airlines. Every country in the world protects its interests when it enters into bilateral agreements. But not India. Thanks to liberal bilaterals, foreign competitors are pounding Indian carriers not just in airports like Mumbai /Delhi but also in places like Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad. As a result, AI's share of the overseas market has been steadily declining.
Let us stopped being fooled by lousy politicians ... Wake up India to Air India .
