Air Force One is a one terrific action thriller, it has some of the beautifully created visual effects, and is one of the best movies of Harrison Ford, that I had watch some time back. Though I had seen this film a long ago in the theatre, it happened that I saw the movie again on the VCD, and I definitely felt that it is still fresh in my mind. This movie has some great acting by Harrison Ford, he is definitely become more professional as he becomes OLD. And Gary Oldmen is too good to be see in his role.
The movie starts out with a stirring speech outlining the US's new ''zero-tolerance policy with respect to terrorism'' from the American President. On flight back home terrorists take over Air Force One (the President's official plane) after getting entry into the plane by posing themselves as journalists with help from one of the FBI agents. In process of taking over the plane they kill several members of the President's staff and take many more hostage which including President's wife and daughter. However the terrorists assume that the President has fled via an escape pod with the help of his bodyguards. The terrorists leader (Played by Gary Oldmen) warns to execute one hostage every half-an-hour if his demands are not met, when the Vice-President tries to negotiate with the terrorist's leader he gives a warning to execute one hostage every half-an-hour if his demands are not met.
Meanwhile, the Vice-President gets in a quarrels with the Defense Secretary in regards to the Constitutions Laws and suggests her to take over the charge of government from an the President. In midst of all this the President who is an fighter pilot earlier in his life, makes a come back by killing some of the terrorists on-board the plane and tries to release the hostages from the terrorists, and finally succeeds in doing so.
The movie presents to the US Citizens altogether a different President, who is sincere, romantic, happens to be a bit of an ass-kicker (courtesy for his army background). He has a wonderful private life with a perfect marriage and a loving 12 year old daughter to keep him from not escaping from the hijacked aircraft. Further add to the picture is the reluctant-heroic vice-president who refuses to take advantages of the situation and take control of the nation.
What makes Air Force One an even better movie is the fact that the characters are believable. The movie is big-budgeted, fast-paced, tension-filled actioner and excellent performances for the actors. The movie has some explosive beginning to and somewhat unexpected climax in the end. The important thing to say here is half the movie takes place aboard Air Force One. Air Force One is another hit that's not to be missed!
