I had a booking with PNR LE5RVL from Hyderabad to Johor Bahru via Kuala Lumpur on 20 May 2017. At Hyderabad airport, I had to pay a check in baggage fee of INR 4400 for just being 2.4 kg extra in total weight. My laptop bag was weighing 3.9 kg and carry on trolley was weighing 5.5 kg. The person at web check in counter refused to allow me to take this to cabin pointing to the rule that max 7 kg is allowed in cabin. I was then required to check in my carry on bag for just being overweight by 2.4 kg at a cost of INR 4400 for 2 sectors at INR 2200 per sector. I asked him to recheck fees for the domestic sector from KLIA2 to Johor Bahru which should be charged less, but he refused.

My questions is that is this correct way of charging the customer for international baggage fees at INR 2200 for domestic sector? The receipt of payment of Rs.4400 does not mention the excess weight at all. I feel being cheated by Air Asia.

I don't mind paying the fees as it is a rule and I had not prebooked baggage, but charging high at international prices for domestic sector KLIA to Johor Bahru was not understood. During the journey, I noted several people with heavy trolley bags and even those with extra duty free shopping bags carrying more that the stipulated weight on board and no check in place. Why am I being penalized for baggage being just 2.4 kg overweight? Same was the case on return with people carrying heavy bags on board and no check in place. I already raised a complaint on 20th May itself but till now there is no reply from Air Asia. A lesson learnt about Air Asia, always prebook for excess baggage while travelling Air Asia if you are carrying something more that a laptop. They charge you Rs.2200 per sector for even 1 kg extra baggage! Novel way of making money. You get a cheaper ticket, but pay it up in the form of baggage fee even for a marginal weight!
