Ahmedabad is the largest city in Gujarat, one of the fastest growing states in India at present. Located on the banks of the River Sabarmati, the city is the administrative centre of Ahmedabad district. It was the capital of the Gujarat Sultanate and was founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah.
The city is the hub of tertiary sector activities like commerce, communication and construction. It is home to a number of reputed corporate houses — Zydus Cadila and Torrent Pharmaceuticals, the Adani Group, the Nirma group, Bosch Rexroth, Stork, Rollepaal, and Johnson Pumps, Sweden.
Ahmedabad is famous for its cuisine especially the typical Gujarati thali ( meal) — which consists of rotli, dal, rice and Shaak ( cooked vegetables, sometimes with curry) , with pickles and roasted papads
