In Current trend it is possible in to make a commercial Tamil movie

~ With One Crore Budget

~ Without a gana song or an item number

~ Without hero doing larger than life characters and stunts

~ Without double entendre’s in dialogues

~ Without comedies of type teasing others, imitating others and beating others

~ With hero and heroine not even touching each other till the end

~ With heroine coming around without showing her skin

~ Even if all the above are possible will it become hit

Yes it will be a hit. The latest movie “Azaghiya Theeyae” produced by three-time national award winning actor Prakash Raj has done it with all new cast and crew. It is a clean (vegetarian) masala entertainer. There was a great expectation on this movie from me (though not from the public) because of two reasons.

1) The trailer of the movie itself was very unique and well thought of. It dragged my attention immediately and the publicity for the movie was also different.

2) The quality of movies like “Anthapuram” and “Naam” which Prakash Raj produced before. These films gave me a confidence that whenever Prakash Raj produces a movie, the movie will have a refreshing plot and will be worth watching. I would say Prakash Raj is the Ram Gopal Varma of South India, though he is not directing films, he follows his path and produces low budget high quality movies. He encourages lot of talented new comers.

The storyline of the movie is very simple. It is about how two strangers fall into love after getting married. Though the overview of the plot is similar to that of Maniratnam’s magnum opus “ Mouna Ragam” the screenplay is entirely different and refreshing. The main strength of the movie is down to earth comedy blended well with the screenplay. Radha Mohan who has written and directed the film deserves appreciation for his flawless screenplay with sudden twists here and there and direction. He has extracted best performance from all the lead characters. One could spot out some scenes with directorial touch. For instance, the pre climax scene where heroine says good-bye to hero, the expressions in cute dog’s face in that scene is well used as an analogy to hero’s emotions. And also in “sandhana ponngaatrae” song, he has brilliantly composed the shots for the meaningful lyrics which itself conveys the theme of the movie “Life is a drama”. Some of the ideas like Prasanna finding the mood of his wife from the position of her slippers at the doorsteps is good. The visual showing an empty shell of egg implying Murthi's death is a nice thought.

Dialogues written by Viji are sharp, witty and very natural. Viji has well understood the personality and emotions of all characters and penned the dialogues accordingly. The dialogues drive the whole screenplay. For the first time I am seeing such a interdependency between dialogues and screenplay. The best example is the dialogues delivered by Prasanna when he tells a story about when and how he met the heroine for the first time and also the conversation between hero and the heroine about love decides the plays a vital role at the end and the entire climax scene is visualized based on those conversations. The word “Boom” and the concept behind it are well thought of.

Music by Ramesh Vinayakam is very unique, melodious and gels with the movie. All the songs have meaningful https://lyrics. I think he is one who has not got enough appreciation that he deserves. His background score is undistrubing and also elevating at some places especially the title card background score is very unique and sounds good, and also the climax the tempo in the music builds up with the emotions. Excellent work Ramesh.

Performance:

Prasanna as Chandran has matured a lot as a good actor with apt dialogue delivery and subtlety in performance. He fits to T in that character. He is able to moreover comfortable with all kinds of expressions in his face. Five stars to “Five Star” Prasanna.

Navya Nair as Nandhini looks like a girl at next-door. She also has done her job well. But at some places her expressions are like that of Gopika. I think still Tamil audience are in Gopika syndrome.

Those who played the character of Murthi, Chithappa and Bala have done a good job. Especially the guy who did Chithappa role seems to be promising as a comedian with right timing in dialogue delivery and mannerism. Wherever he appears, he steals the show completely and evokes laughter instantly. M.S.Bhaskar as Annachi does his usual comedy along with Chittappa.

Last but not the least Prakash Raj who has given a guest appearance wins with this screen presence and brilliant performance yet again. Personally I enjoyed his performance in this movie than that in Vasoolraja MBBS. Everytime when he expresses his admiration on Prasanna’s character in the movie, he drags everyone’s attention and make the audience to clap with his unique face expressions, dialogue delivery and body language. Hats off to Prakash raj.

Still the movie has some negligible flaws in it. They are the whole movie looks like a drama, unnecessary melodrama at the end by killing Murthi character.

On the whole, a clean entertainer after a long time. Definitely worth watching atleast once.
