Andaman and Nicobar Islands (also known once as Kalapani) at the juncture of Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea is also a Union Territory of India, is a beautiful holiday destination.
The Nicobar island is off 150 kms away from Aceh, Indonesia and separated from Myanmar and Thailand by the Andaman Sea. Port Blair being the capital.
The island of Nicobar has untouched beaches and crystal clear blue waters. The cargo and passenger ships have to anchor out in the sea and one has to be ferried by Dingy boats to shore, through the crystal clear water can been seen beautiful, colourful coral life.
Snorkelling is a must here. All houses in Nicobar are built on stilts because of flooding. Islands like Viper, Ross, Havelock, Jolly Buoy, to name a few is a good day trip by speed boat or Ferry. The islands of Sentineli is the home to only known Paleolithic people, the Sentinelese , who have no contact with other people, they live off the land and are unfriendly.
Some tribes like the Jarawas, Shompen and Nicobarese, over a period of time are now civilised. A documentmentary film 'man in search of man' is worth watching. The islands dependent on the Mainland for food products like dairy, vegetables, fruits, livestock as the soil is not fertile to grow their own vegetation. The famous Cellular Jail is on the island of Andaman. Chennai and Kolkatta are the nearest ports. There are a number of good hotel at reasonable prices and tourist packages available on the net.
