I have had a very bad experience of shifting my household items through Packers and Movers, in the past and so this time around I decided to engage a Company of reputation and some standards, who has some national and international standing. After going through the website and the affiliations it has to IAM(International Association of Movers), I thought that the firm would maintain some business ethics while dealing with it's clients. I had to shift my belongings from Delhi to Sambalpur in Odisha.
I called the representative of Agrawal PAckers & Movers DRS Group, considered to be the original group. I called their representative, one Rajat Sharma came to my residence and after examining the household effects gave me a quotation of Rs. 55, 000 excluding insurance charges which were 3% of the total declared value of the goods. The total value of the freight for the consignment worked out to Rs. 60, 000 odd. SInce it was on a shared truck basis, I was told that the goods would be delivered within 10 days. When I asked the payment terms he told me 80% after loading the goods and 20% on delivery, the job included, dismantling furniture, packing transporting, delivery included unloading, unpacking, reassembling the furniture and placement of the household effects as per our requirement.
on 18-10-2015, the goods were loaded on to the truck, and the moment the loading was completed, the representatives asked for 100% payment in advance. when I insisted that I would pay 80% as advance as agreed to by the representative who gave the offer, after about an hour's argument they booked the consignment vide GC No. 4459512 clearly mentioning that 80% advance and balance on delivery.
3 days later I tried to track my consignment, I was told by the tracking department that they are not aware about your consignment and that they would arrange a call back, this kept on continuing until 5 days had passed, after which I contacted the man who had come to give me the quotation. He advised me that unless 100% payment was released the goods would not be delivered. Now I was in a fix, I consulted legal experts who advised me to pay the full amount under protest and reserve the right to sue the Company. Even after the payment was made to the firm on 27-10-2015, ninth day and the proof of the payment given to all concerned, they were harping on the same lines that payment has not been received hence goods are not being delivered, they kept on delaying the consignment dlivery and ultimately delivered on 2-12-2015 ie 4 days beyond the agreed schedule. The delivery personnel simply unloaded the goods into my residence and were insisting to sign the papers that all the materials have been received. When I insisted that the materials need to be unpacked, furniture has to be re assembled, those people simply disappeared into thin air stating that they are going for tea and snacks and will return shortly, when their Bhubaneshwar Depot incharge was contacted, he told that he has dispatched a Carpenter who will come the next day morning and do the needful. The next day when I contacted I was told that on Sunday someone will come and after that nobody has come. The people are not even attending to my telephone calls. I have decided to sue the COmpany. I have got the voice recordings of all the conversations with their representatives. It is a Company of rogues.
