I have decided that I didn’t want to write a review of Afghanistan and talk all about how they attacked the US and that we will defeat them. Instead I wanted to give you the reader a general idea of Afghanistan and how it became the country it is today.
The Afghanistan region is mostly made up of mountains, it is located in Central Asia. Its history and culture goes back for over 5000 years. This country has been known by various names, it was once called Aryana in the ancient times. In the medieval times it was called Khorasan, and in modern times its people decided to call it Afghanistan. The exact population of Afghanistan is unknown, but some say there are about 21-26 million people. There are 4 major ethnic groups and they are as follow. Pashtoons, Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbecks. 99% of the Afghans belong to the Islamic faith, however there are a few who are Hindus, Jew, Sikhs. The language of the country is Pashto and Dari. The capitol of Afghanistan is Kabul, but today Kabul is being destroyed due to war.
The Taliban is ruling the country of Afghanistan, and the leader’s name is Mullah Omar. The country is very poor, and war has always been something that goes on in Afghanistan. You have the Northern Alliance, who want to take over the Taliban, and now you have the US and along with others who are at war with the Taliban and Usoma Bin Laden and his followers. Afghan is a country that doesn’t believe women should work. Women are not allowed to work, get an education, were makeup or go outside alone with out a man. They are not allowed to go outside with out their faces covered.
Afghan doesn’t allow their people to listen to any form of music. They made it a law that if you are caught with music of any kind then you shall be punished. The Taliban sits in his nice big house with all kinds of food and riches, and his people are on the streets looking for food for their kids and family. Women are being beat and killed in Afghan and their ruler is starving them all. Women are also refused health care.
Afghan was a poor country to begin with, and now that war has come to Afghan I’m sure it’s going to be worse then what it once was. We have to remember though that not everyone who lives in Afghan is our enemy. We still need to help those refugees who are fleeing from the Taliban and the war. I hope that once this is over then the Afghan people can bring a ruler into their country who will look out for every ones life and not just his own. I hope that they will learn how to treat their women and children, and I hope that poverty will not take over the country again.
I feel its time to stop blaming the US or Afghan for the attack on the US…. Instead I wanted to just talk about their country and leave war out of it all. We know who is responsible for the attacks and we know it wasn’t everyone in Afghanistan. I’m proud to say though that I’m an American, I couldn’t even begin to imagine what life would be like for me and my children if I had to live and raise my children in Afghanistan. My heart goes out to those women and children who are abused everyday. May they find some peace and I pray that someday things will change for this nation of Afghan.
