There are some movies for which you go in thinking - I know it is gonna be crap, but I am still going to enjoy... At times you enjoy such movies. This one didnt help despite going in with the same mindset.
The movie is set 400 years from current, the world population having been reduced to a city full of men and women, survivors from a contagious disease. The city is ruled by the GoodChild regime, descendants(?) of the scientist who discovered the medicine against the illness. Aeon Flux is a member of a rebel group (Monicans), who plan to overthrow the regime. Why the rebellion? Coz ladies are suddenly disappearing. Dads go around the city with holograms asking ''this is my daughter who went missing... did you see her?''. Ow man, if you make a sci fi, think futuristically!!!
Aeon's sister is shot by officials thinking she is a rebel member. When she gets instructions from the Monican bosses, Aeon storms into the Goodchild citadels, takes care of four guards and then roams around freely as if the whole castle belonged to her old man. She has got company in Sithandra, a female who has got her legs substituted with hands surgically. Aeongets Trevor Goodchild (Marton Csokas)in front of her unarmed and she raises her gun to shoot him when something flashes in her memory about the chap. Oh my god she knew him, they were in love some 5 lifes before, and are meeting now only and by now we know the rest of the movie is just crap.
Charlize is good to sit and watch, and is the lone reason why the general public doesnt walk out of the movie. There is not a single scene that will make you feel for the characters. The whole of the movie is just sci-fi mumbo jumbo and plain cliche... the same old stuff of betrayal, hunger for power and finally all good emerging successfully, set in a city with high walls with encroaching nature all around and an airship floating over it... When will hollywood movie makers start to think creatively?
