I've started learning on Adobe Illustrator very recently. I'm working on the Adobe Illustrator 2015 CC. So far I've learned the isometric designs, polyart and few other basics.
It's a quite elaborate software which will let you generate and alter vector images as per your needs. There are various tutorials available online. You can always trust them.
Adobe illustrator does has a complex user interface, but it just needs some practice. After all it provides a lot of functionality.
Speaking of functionality I don't think there's any other software which can match Adobe Illustrator. Even if there is, Adobe Illustrator has more recognition.
I'd recommend this software to anyone who is new to graphic designing.
